Laker of the Month
This month, we are proud to honor Donna Cook, Reading Interventionist at Gretchko Elementary, as our February Laker of the Month. Nominated by Randi Fogel, Donna exemplifies what it means to be a Laker through her unwavering dedication to students, deep literacy expertise, and collaborative leadership. With more than 37 years in WBSD, 25 as a first-grade teacher and the past decade as a literacy interventionist, Donna continues to make a lasting impact by supporting student growth and guiding staff as Gretchko’s MTSS facilitator and Building Testing Coordinator. We are grateful for the knowledge, compassion, and commitment Donna brings to Gretchko and to Team WB each day.

At Oakland Early College, we do school differently; through our partnership with Oakland Community College, we provide an early middle college experience where OEC students are simultaneously enrolled in high school and college classes at no cost to families. All students in 9th through 11th grade whose families reside in Oakland County can apply. Students earn transferable college credits, up to an associate's degree, that will follow them to a four year university. There is also an option to earn a work certificate through one of OCC’s many programs. All students are supported by our tenets of college, culture, community, and connection in a small and diverse school community.
