If your child is planning to attend TBMS in the fall, receiving this communication does not impact their enrollment. You are receiving this communication because your child currently attends a GEMS feeder school. Enrollment for 2026-2027 will be based on their school of residence or an approved intra-district transfer. Students are officially rolled over into the new school year during the summer. If you have questions specific to your child’s enrollment, please contact your school directly.

πŸ“ Course Selection Forms (Picker Sheets) πŸ“ Course Selection Forms (Picker Sheets)

Students and families will use a Picker Sheet (obtained from the GEMS Office) along with our Course Catalog 26/27 to select the classes your student is interested in taking while in 6th grade.

Parents/Guardians must sign the bottom of the picker sheet prior to the student turning it in.

If a student is interested in an elective that requires an application, the application is due with the course selection form (picker sheet)

THIS WOULD BE FOR NEW STUDENTS ONLY

πŸ“š GEMS & Honors Courses πŸ“š GEMS & Honors Courses

GEMS offers a rigorous curriculum for our students. We are committed to providing students with engaging learning experiences and strive to prepare students for high school and beyond. GEMS has a variety of opportunities for students who are interested in our higher level English Language Arts and Math classes.

Honors Language Arts:

GEMS formerly had an application process for Honors Language Arts. This year, Honors Language Arts will be a self-select process. There is no application. Honors Language Arts will provide students with opportunities to delve deeper into grade-level content and additional projects to expand their learning. Interested students should select Honors ELA when they complete their course registration request form (picker sheet). Picker sheets will be provided to 5th-grade students at their assigned Shadow A Panther Day. Please refer to the information provided above. There is no guarantee that students will be enrolled in Honors ELA; students will be evaluated for Honors ELA eligibility based on their most recent ELA grades and SBAC scores, once class registration course requests are complete.

Accelerated Math (Honors Math):

GEMS formerly had an application process for Honors Math. This year, Honors Math is called Accelerated Math. Accelerated is a more fitting name because it shows that students will be receiving grade-level math content and additional math content beyond their grade level. Math is a subject that builds and students must receive the required material to advance to the next Accelerated Math course. Accelerated Math will be a self-select process. There is no application. Students can self-select Accelerated Math 6 on their course registration request form (picker sheet).Picker sheets will be provided to 5th-grade students at their assigned Shadow A Panther Day. Please refer to the information provided above. There is no guarantee that students will be enrolled in Accelerated Math; students will be evaluated for Accelerated Math eligibility based on their most recent Math grades and SBAC scores, once class registration course requests are complete.

AVID & Rigorous Support

AVID is an excellent way to help with organization skills and note-taking strategies and provides additional academic support to students. AVID can help students with academic motivation acquire additional skills to succeed in a rigorous curriculum. If a student elects interest in Honors ELA or Accelerated Math and shows potential to meet eligibility requirements with additional support, AVID will be a highly recommended elective for that student.
