Thank You, Parents!

Spring Valley Families, we are so grateful for the incredible way you showed up for teacher appreciation week. The lunch on Wednesday was delicious and the gifts for our staff were so thoughtful. So many of you volunteered for Field Day and made today extra special. We can't thank you enough for being so supportive.

Be sure to read through the entire newsletter today. We have a lot of fun events in the next two weeks that you won't want to miss out on. The next one is our Spring Valley Farewell Tour, tomorrow from 3-5. All current and former gators are invited to attend.

New Sign-In System

Good news! We have a new sign-in system that will make coming to events at Spring Valley much easier for our guests. You will notice that you can sign your students in and out with an iPad station in the front office. In addition, you can check in remotely on the day of an event to make obtaining your badge go more quickly and smoothly.

  • On the morning of the event you are attending, you can complete your sign in at this link. You will need your government issued ID in order to complete the check-in.
  • Arrive a few minutes early with your ID in hand to pick up your badge that is already printed!
  • If you are planning to volunteer for any of these events, be sure you have completed your background check on RISD.voly.org. Make sure you make it all the way to the end. It will prompt you to watch a video and electronically sign.

With Swamp Rally, graduations, and other fun events to close out the year, we hope this new system will help your visit go more smoothly.

Spring Valley Farewell Tour

Tomorrow, May 11, from 3-5 p.m., we will host our Spring Valley Farewell Tour. Photos and memorabilia from the legacy of Spring Valley will be on display for guests to view. All current and former gators are invited to attend.

Donuts With Grown-Ups

On the morning of May 14th, be sure to give yourself a little extra time to join us for Donuts With Grown-Ups on the front lawn of Spring Valley Elementary. From 7:30-8:00, we will serve coffee, juice, and donuts. Donuts are first come, first served.

SVE PTA Dissolution

All Spring Valley Elementary PTA members are invited to participate in the dissolution meeting on May 21st at 3:30 p.m. As you know, Spring Valley Elementary will close at the end of this school year. We would appreciate the support of our school's PTA members as we make decisions about the remaining assets belonging to the Spring Valley Elementary PTA.

Carpool Line Reminders

We wanted to thank you for your help this spring with our new dismissal procedures. The car line, in particular, is moving quickly and efficiently thanks to everyone's cooperation.

Parents, we really need your help. Recently, we have noticed more families walking up in the carpool line for pickup. Please remember that the front of the school is car line only. If you wish to walk up to the building to pick up your child, please contact your child's teacher and switch them to walker dismissal at the back of the building.

We appreciate your cooperation as this keeps our dismissal quick, efficient, and safe. Thank you.

Student Transfers

Students who are at Spring Valley on a transfer will be returned to their home campus at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. If you do not wish to return to your home campus, you will need to apply for a transfer. If you need assistance with applying for a transfer for the 2024-2025 school year, please contact our student data specialist, Jocelyn Castillo (jocelyn.castillo@risd.org).

School Consolidation Plan

Dear Spring Valley Families,

As you are aware, the Richardson ISD board of trustees voted to approve Project RightSize that will consolidate and repurpose five elementary campuses, including Spring Valley.

Under the consolidation plan, the attendance boundaries of Spring Valley Elementary will primarily be consolidated with Northwood Hills Elementary starting next school year.

Many of our students are enrolled in a central program that is currently located on our campus. Central programs do not exist on every RISD campus, and periodically these programs move from one campus to another depending upon demand, capacity, geographic location, and suitability of the receiving facility. In the case of any student who is enrolled in a central program, final decisions about campus placement for the 2024-2025 school year will be communicated before May 15.

Central programs at Spring Valley include:

  • Dual Language Classes (Bilingual Program)

  • Central Special Education Programs - DLC, SLC, etc.

If your child participates in one of the central programs listed above at SVE, you will receive information about your child’s school placement for the upcoming 2024 -25 school year by May 15. Note that as with every school year, current Pre-K students will return to their attendance area elementary school for Kindergarten next year.

If you have any questions please contact the SVE office at 469-593-4600.

Respectfully,

Brona Hudson

Spring Valley Elementary, Principal

Summer School

Be on the lookout for a Summer School Invitation in your email, letting you know if your child qualifies for Ignite Summer School this year. Your child may qualify for Ignite Summer School if they have been identified as being Tier 3 Reading and/or Tier 3 Math based on MOY MAP Data. All PK or K students in the bilingual program will qualify for summer school.

Save The Date To Save Your Seat

Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year opens online Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m. Whether you’re new to RISD or returning for another year of school, parents can take advantage of convenient online enrollment using a PowerSchool registration account.

Enrollment for returning students will require a “snapcode” that will be emailed to current parents on Monday, Feb. 26.

Starting Feb. 27, enrollment for next school year will open for all current or future students in Pre-K through grade 12. Please click here for more information about the enrollment process and what documents are necessary to complete enrollment.

Because our campus is part of the proposed consolidation plan, you may have questions about how that affects your enrollment. Should the school board approve the Project RightSize proposed recommendations, most students who call Spring Valley their home campus will be automatically transferred to Northwood Hills. Any Spring Valley students who live at The Citadel, south of LBJ, will be automatically transferred to Hamilton Park. Students who are at Spring Valley on overflow or transfer, will return to their home campus. As always, you will have the opportunity to request a transfer.

Regardless, it is important that you complete your enrollment as soon as possible in order to ensure you have your seat reserved for the 2024-2025 school year.

Contact our SDS, Jocelyn Castillo, for questions or assistance with enrollment, including help submitting necessary documents.

Little Free Pantry

Many of you have been asking about the structure that has been installed on the school's front porch. We're excited to let you know that our Little Free Pantry is ready for use! Our own Spring Valley students would like to show you what our Little Free Pantry is all about.

The Little Free Pantry is in response to survey answers from our community. It is a resource for immediate food and hygiene needs. The rules are simple: take only what you need and give when you can. The pantry is open and unlocked daily and you do not need an appointment to take what you need.

You can find non-perishable foods and basic hygiene items such as soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and deodorant in the pantry. It is open for you to visit any time. We'd like to thank the Spring Valley PTA and neighbors from Wilshire Baptist Church for providing the funds and manpower to launch this new resource.

We hope this, along with our uniform closet, will be another way our Spring Valley community continues to show care for one another and that these resources make it easier for students to be ready to learn each day.

Volunteer at SVE

If you are interested in becoming an RISD volunteer, please sign up through risd.voly.org.

Each year, all volunteers must make sure their contact information is up to date or create a new account if they have never signed up. The process takes about five minutes, and you will be able to customize your volunteer opportunities based on interest and school. All volunteers must complete a background check through the VOLY system.

Volunteer opportunities are available at some schools in classroom support, office support, and cafeteria support.

Needs at each school can change each day, and schools will confirm with volunteers if they are needed on that campus in that area on the day chosen. Please do not go to a school unless you have received a confirmation message from the campus or another RISD representative. If your campus of choice does not need a volunteer in your area of interest, please consider volunteering at a campus with greater needs.

School Day Reminders

Here are a few reminders about the school day at Spring Valley Elementary. Your attention to these details will help our procedures run quickly and smoothly.

VISITING OUR SCHOOL: In order to visit our school, you must have a government issued ID or passport. This includes meetings and conferences during the school day, assemblies and celebrations, and signing students out.

CAFETERIA: The cafeteria is no longer using Paypams for cafeteria payments. The new system is a user-friendly app called Schoolcafe. You can download the app to your phone from any app store. Scroll down for more information about Schoolcafe.

For the first few weeks of school, we will not have parents in for lunch as we establish cafeteria rules and procedures. When the schedule for parent lunches is set, the information will be sent weekly in The Gator Gazette.
