The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a public meeting on Monday, May 1. The following are important news and notes from that meeting.

Board Recognizes Teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week as Well as School Nurses, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board passed a resolution during the May 1 meeting recognizing the week of May 1 as Teacher Appreciation Week. Board directors shared their deep appreciation for the talent, work, and dedication that WLWV educators provide for students each and every day.

The Board also recognized district nurses, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists for the great lengths that they go to in supporting students.

Thank you to all of our incredible educators and specialists!

Budget Committee Selects Chair, Vice Chair

The West Linn-Wilsonville Budget Committee held its first meeting of the 2022-23 school year, selecting a Committee Chair and Vice Chair, listening to the 2023-24 budget message, and receiving the proposed 2023-24 budget.

The Budget Committee selected Mini Aga as Chair and Hui Xie as Vice Chair. The budget committee will reconvene for a work session on May 17 starting at 5 p.m. The proposed budget and budget message can be found on the district website.

Superintendent Ludwig Reads 2023-24 Budget Message

Superintendent Dr. Kathy Ludwig presented the 2023-24 Budget Message during the May 1 meeting. The 2023-24 budget message included a proposed 2023-24 budget with:

  • $156,284,722 in the General Fund
  • $29,248,334 in the Special Revenue Fund
  • $41,356,038 in the Debt Services Fund
  • $75,709,650 in the Capital Projects Fund

The budget message included public school budget sources; steps in assembling the school district budget such as investment strategies and public input; reporting the 2023-24 budget based on a $9.9 billion State School Found biennium; revenues and expenditures; and recognition of the WLWV community. The budget message also conveyed that the reported $9.9 billion state school fund is less than the $10.3 billion Oregon school districts would need to adequately support roll-up costs for existing programs and personnel. This means the 2023-24 budget will require part of the 2022-23 ending fund balance to maintain services.

The full budget message can be found on the district website.
