Dear Schwenksville Families,

I hope you are doing well. As you know, Monday, April 8, our area will be in the direct line of a partial solar eclipse. As per the latest Superintendent Message (PV Superintendent Message 4/3/24), if you feel more comfortable keeping your child at home for the day or picking them up from school early, please follow the procedures outlined below.

For picking your student up from school early, please send an email to our office staff at swattendance@pvsd.org AND to your child's classroom teacher by Monday, April 8 at 10:00 AM.

Please include the following in your email:

Subject: Solar Eclipse Early Pick-Up - [Your child’s name]

In the Email please include:

  • Your student’s name

  • Time of the pick up

    • For the Solar Eclipse pick up process, please plan to pick up your child PRIOR to 2:30 PM, as we will need to begin preparing for our regular scheduled dismissal.
  • The name of the adult who will be picking up your student.

    • When picking up your child, please be prepared to present your ID (Driver's License). This is to ensure an efficient pick up procedure process and the safety of our students. If someone else is picking up your child, please inform them to bring their ID.

If your child will be absent on this day due to the solar eclipse please send an email to swattendance@pvsd.org. This will count as your call-out AND parent excuse. Please indicate in the email the student’s name, date of absence, student’s grade, teacher's name, and the reason for the absence.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with these procedures.

Take care and be well,

Krista Venza, Principal

Solar Eclipse Viewing Glasses Solar Eclipse Viewing Glasses

zoom_out_map

The District has acquired ISO 12312-2 glasses that meet the specifications for safe viewing for each of our students. Teachers who plan to take their students outside to view this unique educational and scientific opportunity will reach out to parents/guardians to let you know.

We will instruct students not to look at the eclipse while walking outside and to only look at the eclipse when properly wearing the ISO 12312-2 glasses. We will also encourage students to wear the glasses while on the bus if they are traveling home via school bus. Students who walk home from school will be reminded not to look at the eclipse, just like we shouldn't look directly at the sun at any time. We will also teach students who wear regular glasses to put the ISO 12312-2 glasses over their glasses (on the outside of their glasses).

Feel free to send your own ISO 12312-2 international standard viewing glasses in with your child if you prefer.

If you are going to keep your child home on Monday, April 8th and would like their teacher to send home their pair of ISO 12312-2 glasses on Friday, please contact your child's teacher via email by 12 PM on Friday, April 5. Please do not request their glasses be sent home unless you are certain your child will be staying home on Monday, April 8th. We only have enough for each student to have one pair.

Students learned about the importance of using kind manners by giving a greeting when we see someone. Teachers continued this conversation by talking with students about saying hello to others and responding when someone says hello to you!
