Major's Minute
I just came back from a wonderful week at Music Camp with Brianda. The youth had so much fun and they grew so much in there musical abilities. As I sat down to begin the newsletter - I realized that the last newsletter was dated June 8! WOW!
So, much has happened since then!
Commissioning weekend newly ordained officers were sent out to their new appointments.
Our wonderful youth (Azzie, Brianda, Ella, Fallon, Kiara, and Janae) competed in Encore with your help getting there. They also enjoyed Universal studios as an extra treat along with chaperones Joy, Karina, and Roxanne. They did not place, but sounded wonderful!! Brianda played well in her piano category. She has shown so much growth. Janae also played guitar in an age category above hers - and she ended up being the only one in her category! So, she won for the Territory! Well played, well played, but also deserved! :) Thank you to our chaperones for driving everyone home!
After that weekend, our family flew off to the Philippines and Korea for our once in a lifetime adventure! So many memories made which included ministry opportunities with The Salvation Army.
But, even more wonderful is while we were gone, Santa Clara continued ministry in these ways:
-45 camper slots were filled for six weeks of camp
-45 campers driven up to camp and back
-Food pantry still serving an average of 100 people each week
-Discounted bus passes purchased through our office
-Toiletries, women's clothing, pet food given out
-Ready made delivered meals were given out
-Volunteers helping to pick up pantry food twice a week and processing it
-Free volleyball clinic offered on Saturday evenings
-Gym rentals for karate, basketball, soccer, and volleyball continued
-Life Moves has been running a mini summer camp on campus for their program in July
Sunday ministry continued:
- FIVE different speakers on Sunday brought the word (Thank you again to Majors Rodriguera, Majors Freeman, Rich and Shari Serrato, and Simon Wood!)
- Thank you Andrew for continuing to bring the men from the Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) to worship.
- Oscar and Mark helped bring fresh worship with our already faithful praise team members.
- Nursery workers, set up and break down crew, Sunday offering counted, sound and slides crew, YOU know who you are! WE thank you for being there!
- Marleas contacting everyone for Sunday worship responsibilities!
- Kristen holding down the office, facilitating and physically doing so much for the community!
You are all a blessing! We cannot thank you enough for the extra support this summer! It'll take us a minute to get back into the swing of things, but we're excited for this next program year - growing in the Lord and in ministry together!
There are still many photos to collect and sort through of the last month. If you have a picture to share from church of your family, please text/email to shoshannah.ruwethin@usw.salvationarmy.org and I'll do my best to get them into next week's newsletter! Have a great week!

Men's Retreat @ Camp Redwood Glen, August 15 - 17
This is going to be a fantastic weekend for the men of the Golden State Division. Those attending this retreat will be blessed by great teaching, workshops, worship, fellowship, and of course… lots of great food. The men of the Golden State division will also be giving a warm welcome to our new Divisional Leader – Major Michael Zielinski.
The guest speaker for the weekend will be the dynamic and spirit-filled man of God. Rev. Dr. Robert Marshall – Senior Pastor the Los Angeles Community Church. Along with his wife Donna, the Marshalls have served at Los Angeles Community Church since 2013. Robert earned a Master of Theology degree from George Fox Theological Seminary in Portland Oregon in 2005, and he completed a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2016. He is a regular speaker at conferences around the country and brings the Word of God in a powerful way.
Saturday Evening will be a time of fun and fellowship with guest award winning comedian Dennis Gaxiola. One of America’s funniest clean comedians, with two Dry Bar comedy specials ranked in the top ten, including his new special at #1. With over 20 television appearances and 150 million views on social media, the Air Force veteran has toured with the Latin kings of comedy and the Fluffy tour. Comedy is Dennis' gift, but his relationship with Jesus Christ is the driving force in his life and he uses his comedy as ministry for groups.
