Halfway through Q1!
Aloha Damien ʻOhana,
Mahalo to all of you who attended our Back-To-School Night last Thursday! We are grateful for the opportunity to welcome you to campus, introduce you to your child’s teachers, and share in the important work of supporting our Monarchs. As shared that evening, our partnership is strongest when home and school work together. This is a great time to pause, check in, and encourage our Monarchs as they continue to settle into the school year. We encourage parents and guardians to check in with your child about assignments, grades, attendance, friendships, and overall well-being. Please stay connected with your child’s teachers and reach out when questions or concerns arise.
If you have not been able to access the Schoology parent portal yet, please reach out to us. Attend this weekʻs DHO meeting to learn about all the ways our families support our school community! Invite your childʻs grandparents to our first Grandparentsʻ Coffee Talk and Liturgy on Sept 16! Support any of our athletic and CSL teams by coming out to their games this season! There are so many opportunities to be a part of the Damien experience!
Our partnership and engagement make a meaningful difference in our students’ success in faith, academics, integrity and character. We look forward to working together throughout the school year!

A Special Presentation for Grades 9-12 TOMORROW
A Meaningful Conversation with Jason Evert
We are excited to welcome Jason Evert to Damien Memorial School as he speaks with our high school students about faith, relationships, identity, and making choices that reflect their God-given dignity and worth. Through his engaging and thoughtful message, Jason will challenge our students to consider how their decisions shape who they are becoming and how they can live with purpose, respect, and integrity.
This opportunity reflects our commitment to educating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and supporting our young men and women as they navigate the opportunities and challenges of today’s world.
Mr. Evert is a well-known Catholic author, podcaster, and international chastity speaker. He co-founded the Chastity Project and has spoken to more than a million young people globally about human sexuality, the Theology of the Body, and virtue.
STAR Assessment Window: Aug 31-Sept 8
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting student learning and growth, students in Grades 6–12 will participate in STAR assessments (math and reading). The assessment window is August 31 through September 8 in the fall and late April in the spring. Each assessment can take between 25-40 minutes. Middle school testing will be Monday, August 31; high school testing will be Friday, Sept 4.
STAR is an adaptive assessment, which means the questions adjust based on each student’s responses. As students answer questions correctly or incorrectly, the assessment adapts to provide questions that are appropriately challenging for their individual level. This allows us to gain a more accurate picture of each student’s current skills and areas for growth. Students can take the amount of time needed to complete each assessment. Generally, most students finish each assessment within 30-45 minutes.
STAR results provide teachers with valuable information to help inform instruction, identify student strengths and areas for support, and monitor academic growth throughout the school year. Remind your child that STAR is an opportunity to show what they know - not something to stress about.
Upcoming College Visits
Title I Services at Damien
Our Title I programs are committed to helping Title I students succeed and reach their full potential. Throughout the year, Title I staff work closely with Title I students, families, teachers, and our school community to provide additional academic support, programs, and resources based on student needs all for FREE. Students are designated as Title I eligible based on their geographic location on island (physical address and grade).
If you believe your student qualifies for Title I services, or has in the past, please complete the consent form. We look forward to partnering with families this year to build strong foundations for learning and celebrate student growth.
