What a week to be a Green Knight!

As I reflect on our Homecoming celebrations, I cannot help but feel an incredible sense of pride in our students, staff, and school community. From Nerds vs. Jocks to Dress for the Wrong Occasion, 2016 Day, Student Slump, and finally our Color Wars, our students and staff showed up all week with creativity, enthusiasm, and school spirit.

When I met with each class at the beginning of the school year, I shared one of my biggest hopes as principal: to build a school and community that our students are proud to represent. This week, I saw that vision come to life.

Our Homecoming Pep Rally brought that spirit to a whole new level. Green Knight Stadium was rocking as students cheered, competed, and celebrated together. Congratulations to the Class of 2027 for taking home the coveted Spirit Stick! Saturday's Homecoming Parade continued one of Mount's proudest traditions, and I could not have been more impressed with our Army JROTC cadets and Green Knight Marching Band for leading the way.

We closed out the festivities with a wonderful Homecoming Dance, where students enjoyed time with their peers and made lasting memories. A special thank you to Ms. Hunter and the Class of 2027 for creating such a beautiful setting and memorable experience. Throughout the celebrations, several students stopped to tell me how much fun they had all week. Those conversations meant more to me than they probably realized.

As I reflect on the week, I keep coming back to our focus on student ownership. We often discuss ownership in the classroom, but it extends far beyond academics. It is about students taking pride in their school, contributing to its culture, leading their peers, and recognizing that they have the power to shape the community they experience every day. Our students were not simply attending Homecoming events. They were helping plan them, leading them, and making them their own.

I want our students to be proud of Mount Pleasant—not simply because of what we provide for them, but because of what they help create here. This week was a wonderful reminder that we are moving in that direction.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, and community for making Homecoming 2026 such a memorable celebration. I am incredibly proud to be your principal.

One School. One Community. We ARE!

Wrapped Wishes: Help Make the Holidays Brighter!

The Brandywine School District's Wrapped Wishes initiative, in partnership with the BSD Student Voice Advisory Council, is seeking families, donors, and volunteers to help make the holiday season special for children throughout our district. Community members can support this effort by sponsoring a student through a monetary donation or purchasing gifts from a child's wish list. Gift sponsors will receive wish lists beginning November 1, with gifts due by Friday, December 4.

To learn more, sponsor a child, or volunteer, visit www.wrappedwishes.com or scan the QR code on the flyer.

Here at Mount Pleasant, our Student Voice Advisory Council is also continuing to collect feminine hygiene products and deodorant through October 31 to support families in need. We encourage our Green Knight community to consider contributing to this important collection.

Whether you sponsor a child through Wrapped Wishes or donate essential hygiene products at MPHS, every contribution makes a difference. Thank you for helping us demonstrate the generosity and compassion that define our Green Knight community!

Interim Reports & Parent Teacher Conferences

Interim Reports were released on Monday, October 5, and are now available for families to review through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. With the district's transition to Infinite Campus, Interim Reports and Report Cards are no longer automatically printed or mailed home. Families must access these documents electronically.

To view your student's academic progress, select the “Grades” tab to review current marking period grades or the “Documents” tab to access a printable PDF of the official Interim Report. Families will be notified throughout the school year when Interim Reports and Report Cards become available.

As we approach Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 22–23, we encourage families to review their student's academic progress and connect with teachers to celebrate successes, discuss concerns, and identify opportunities for continued growth.

To provide flexibility for families, teachers will be available for conferences through one of the following schedules:

  • Thursday, October 22, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. and Friday, October 23, from 7:15–11:45 a.m.

  • Friday, October 23, from 7:15 a.m.–2:45 p.m.

Teachers will communicate their availability and work with families to schedule conferences. We encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect directly with their student's teachers.

Need assistance? If you need help accessing Infinite Campus, obtaining your authorization code or login information, or requesting a printed copy of your student's Interim Report, please contact the school or your student's school counselor. We want every family to have access to the information needed to support their Green Knight's success.

Visitation Day – Student Volunteers Needed!

Mount Pleasant High School is excited to welcome prospective students and families for our annual Visitation Day on Thursday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. This event provides an opportunity for future Green Knights to explore our school, learn about our academic programs, and discover the many opportunities available at MPHS.

To help make this event a success, we are seeking student volunteers to showcase our academic programs, clubs, athletics, and student organizations. Our students are our greatest ambassadors, and we want visiting families to hear firsthand what makes the Mount Pleasant experience special.

We encourage families to talk with their students about getting involved and representing our school community. Interested students should sign up to volunteer and help us welcome the next generation of Green Knights!

Spooky Movie Attendance Incentive!

Being Accountable, Respectful, and Engaged starts with showing up—on time and ready to learn. As part of our MTSS Tier 1 Attendance Incentive, we began tracking student tardies on October 1 and will continue through October 29. Students with no more than two tardies during this period will earn the opportunity to participate in our Spooky Movie celebration on October 30!

Please remember that this includes tardiness to school as well as tardiness to class. In the Brandywine School District, when you are late to school, you are late to class. We encourage every Green Knight to demonstrate our We ARE values by being Accountable for arriving on time, Respectful of instructional time, and Engaged in learning from the very beginning of class.

Supporting Students & Preparing for the PSAT

As we enter our fourth week of school, the MPHS School Counseling Department has enjoyed welcoming our new students and reconnecting with those returning. As we move beyond the busy schedule-change season, we look forward to supporting students through individual counseling, small groups, classroom lessons, and postsecondary education and career planning.

At MPHS, we are committed to providing a comprehensive school counseling program and are proud to be recognized as an ASCA RAMP School. Please reach out to your child’s school counselor so we can partner with you to provide the best possible support for your student.

Looking ahead, all 11th-grade students will take the PSAT 11 on Wednesday, October 21, during the first two blocks of the school day. Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will follow their normal school-day schedule.

Juniors can begin preparing now by using the PSAT/SAT preparation resources available through College Board and Khan Academy. We encourage students to practice ahead of time and arrive on testing day on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best!

AVID Spotlight: Building Tomorrow’s Readers (and Test-Takers) Today

At Mount, AVID doesn’t wait until junior year to start preparing students for the SAT. We build the skills early, so that by test day, students feel ready and confident.

This week, our 10th grade AVID students focused on SAT vocabulary. Each student created illustrated flashcards, pairing every new word with a picture to help it stick, and then partnered up to quiz one another. In one activity, students practiced writing, reading, and collaboration, three of the core skills AVID develops every day.

Why vocabulary? A strong vocabulary does more than raise test scores. When students know more words, they understand more of what they read, from textbooks to news articles to college applications. Every new word makes them stronger readers and clearer thinkers, both now and long after the SAT.

A Big Thank You to Our WICOR Warriors!

WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. These research-based strategies are the foundation of AVID, and at Mount, they are used across all content areas, not just in the AVID classroom.

This month, we want to recognize four teachers who are bringing a variety of WICOR activities into their content classes:

  • Andrea Tyson, Culinary Arts
  • Sgt. Shawn Coho, JROTC
  • Taria Pritchett, English
  • Darling Sanchez-Meneses, World Languages

Thank you for helping our students practice these essential skills in every subject. Your work shows students that writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading matter everywhere, from the kitchen to the JROTC room to the classroom. We are grateful for our WICOR Warriors
