Hope Rising: Celebrating Excellence and Looking Forward
Dear Coupeville School District Community,
As we move deeper into fall, I am continually inspired by the dedication and excellence I see throughout our district. Hope is rising in Coupeville, and it's evident in everything our students, staff, and community are accomplishing together.
Playoff Season is Approaching!
We are hoping to see many of our student-athletes heading into an exciting playoff season, and we couldn't be prouder. Day in and day out, these dedicated students balance rigorous academics with athletic excellence, demonstrating the commitment and perseverance that define Coupeville. Whether on the field, court, or course, our Wolves are competing at high levels and representing our community with pride.
Facilities Task Force Launches
This week marked an important milestone as we kicked off our Facilities Planning Task Force. This diverse group of nearly 25 members—including students, staff, parents, and community members—Over the next year, they’ll study facility needs, explore funding options, and gather community feedback ahead of a possible capital measure in 2027. Their work will help us ensure our facilities continue to meet the evolving needs of our students, staff, and community for years to come.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we plan for the future of our facilities, we are also preparing for the February 2026 levy renewal. Our current levies, approved by voters in 2022, fund the day-to-day operations that directly support student learning—from classroom staff and curriculum to technology and security systems. The Board of Directors will consider a resolution at our upcoming meeting to place these renewal measures before voters.
Every day, I witness hope rising in our classrooms, in our schools and fields, and in the connections we're building with our community. Thank you for your continued partnership in making Coupeville School District a place where every student can thrive.
With gratitude and Wolf pride,
Shannon Leatherwood

What's the Difference Between a Bond and a Levy?
Looking Ahead: Levy Renewal Information
Our community will have the opportunity to consider renewing the two local levies that were last approved in 2022. These levies are critical to maintaining the day-to-day operations that support student learning in our district.
Currently, Coupeville School District receives 77% of its funding from the state, 16% from local sources including levies, and 7% from federal sources. Like school districts across the state, we rely on voter-approved levies to fund staff, programs, technology, and services that are unfunded or underfunded by state and federal governments.
Our two current levies serve distinct purposes:
- The Educational Programs & Operations Levy provides annual funding for athletics and clubs, classroom staff, curriculum, and CTE opportunities
- The Capital Technology Levy provides annual funding for repairs and maintenance, learning technology, and security systems
The Board of Directors will be considering a resolution at our upcoming meeting to place levy renewal measures before voters in February 2026.
More information will be shared as details are finalized. You can also visit our website for more information: https://www.coupeville.k12.wa.us/levy

Filipino American History Month
During October, the Coupeville School District joins communities across the country in celebrating Filipino American History Month, a time to honor the rich heritage, culture, and lasting contributions of Filipino Americans.
This observance marks the arrival of the first Filipino men, known as Luzones Indios, who landed in Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587 aboard the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Buena Esperanza. Filipino immigrants would not begin settling in the United States until nearly 200 years later, but their presence and influence have been part of American history for centuries.
From the first permanent settlement in 1763 to today, Filipino Americans have helped shape our nation through their achievements in education, public service, science, the arts, and many other fields. Their stories reflect resilience, community, and the spirit of the American Dream.
Throughout the month, we invite you to explore Filipino heritage and culture. Visit a museum, read about notable Filipino Americans, watch a film, or share stories that highlight the incredible diversity within our communities.
Learn more and celebrate using #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth.
