Students in AP Psychology
A big shout-out to Mr. Cavenar and his AP Psychology students for their amazing work on The Iconic Brain Project! Students selected a celebrity, historical figure, or favorite fictional character and analyzed how that person (or character) might use different regions of the brain.
From Spider-Man to Taylor Swift, from Mario to Melanie Martinez, students labeled brain functions with creativity—like explaining how Spider-Man might use his occipital lobe—and connected them to course concepts. The project not only showcased imagination but also helped students lock in their understanding of brain functions, which is already showing up in classroom discussions. While the pictures are great, the projects are better. They are currently on display in the upper level B-Hall Collab Space.
Projects like these showcase the best of what it means to be a Trail Blazer—curious, innovative, and willing to think outside the box!
Way to go, Mr. Cavenar and AP Psych students! 💚💛

FISD Takes All Threats Seriously
When students make a threat to a campus, even via social media, the District and campus move quickly to address them. Watch Frisco Police discuss why words matter.
Parents are encouraged to remind children that while they may be “joking” about having a weapon or threatening harm to a school campus, the punishment by law is, at minimum, a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and up to a year in jail. The punishment can be as severe as a third-degree felony, punishable by up to $10,000 and two to 10 years in prison.
Frisco ISD supports the Frisco Police Department's full prosecution of any individual who threatens harm to our students, staff, and campuses.

Counseling Corner
AP & Advanced Class Drop Window
The window for students to drop Advanced or AP courses is now open. We understand that these decisions can be complex, and we want to ensure you have all the necessary information to make an informed choice.
Key Dates and Procedures
Form Availability: Starting Wednesday, September 10, students can pick up an Advanced/AP Drop Form from their teacher or the Counseling Office.
Submission Deadline: The completed form, including required parent and teacher signatures, must be returned to the Counseling Office no later than 4:30 PM on Wednesday, September 17.
Effective Date: All approved schedule changes will go into effect on Monday, September 22.
Eligible Changes: This drop window is only for students wishing to change from an advanced or AP class to an on-level equivalent. No other schedule changes will be processed at this time.
Late Arrival/Early Release: Juniors and Seniors who are dropping a course may request a Late Arrival or Early Release period if they do not already have two on their schedule. Students Must have their own transportation and are not permitted to stay on campus during this time.
Specific Course Information
Courses Without an On-Level Equivalent: AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics, AP Spanish 4 or 5, AP Euro, AP Music Theory, AP Calc BC, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Art courses. AP Computer Science, AP French 4, Spanish 3 Adv. Dropping these courses will result in a change to a Late Arrival or Early Release period. If the course is a graduation requirement, a counselor will discuss your options with you to ensure you stay on track.
AP Seminar: AP Seminar has a different drop window. It can only be dropped at the 6-week mark and only applies to 11th and 12th-grade students.
Important Considerations
Changes Are Not Guaranteed: Submitting a form does not guarantee a schedule change. Approval depends on seat availability in the requested on-level course.
Grading: If you drop an advanced class, your grade from the first six weeks will follow you to the new on-level course and will be part of your Q1 average.
No Reversals: Once a schedule change is made, it cannot be undone. Please carefully consider your decision before submitting the form. We are unable to predict what a new schedule will look like in advance.
If you have any questions or concerns, we strongly encourage you to speak with your counselor.

Shauna Barnes, from the Grant Haliburton Foundation, brings a strong background in child psychiatry research and a deep passion for mental health awareness and advocacy. Reminders
Action Required: Routine Health Services Consent Form
Starting Sept. 1, 2025, state law (Senate Bill 12) requires parents to give annual consent before school staff can provide routine health services such as first aid, screenings, or short-term counseling. Without consent, only emergency, life-saving care may be given. If you have not done so already, please click here to ensure your student can receive care from the nurse, athletic trainers and counselors.

End of Year & Vacation Planning
As we begin this school year, I want to share an important update about attendance and grading expectations. Unlike in recent years, student grades and assessments will now be collected through the very last week of school. Every instructional day matters, and it is essential that students are present and engaged until the final day of the school year.
We know families often plan trips in advance, but please schedule travel after the last day of school. Missing these last instructional days can affect a student’s learning and may have a direct impact on their final grades.
Access the academic calendar and view our grading practices by clicking on the Campus Assessment and Grading link on our campus website. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure students finish the year strong.
We’re looking forward to a great year of learning together!
