An Extraordinary Time

We hope this finds you safe and well. We also want to offer our sincerest condolences to all who have lost a loved one due to COVID-19, our hearts go out to you.

A sincere thank you to our health care professionals and their families. Your efforts and care of our fellow citizens is appreciated more than words can express.

In an extraordinary time, people rise extraordinarily. Educators and support staff across the state, from the State Superintendent to teachers to bus drivers have all risen to the occasion. Dr. McCormick is speaking to us every Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Teachers and administrators are working diligently to provide as best an education as possible during this time. Cafeteria workers and bus drivers are making and delivering meals so no child goes hungry. These are just a few of the numerous examples of good people doing great things to help us all through this unusual period of time.

This newsletter will be a little different than ones in the past. It will mainly provide links to valuable resources provided by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). Many of the documents listed provide guidance that is as current as possible. Information is changing rapidly, we are doing our best to stay current, so please check the IDOE website regularly to make sure you have the latest information.

A heartfelt thank you again to all of our front-line workers, and our leaders, for everything you are doing for students, families and our fellow Hoosiers!

Stay safe, stay well,

Frank

Virtual Title Con 20/20

Title Con 20/20 Moodle Course

The Indiana Department of Education is pleased to announce the Title Con 20/20 Moodle Course is now live!

There are currently five sessions from which to choose. Additional sessions will be added as they are recorded and edited for release. Please note you may need to create a Moodle account if you do not have one.

One PGP point may be earned for each session completed. In order to complete a session, the course requires participants to watch the video and successfully complete a short quiz. Once those two requirements are met, the Certificate of Completion may be printed as evidence for PGP point requirements.

Thank you for your patience in this process of switching from face-to-face sessions to virtual sessions.

Please let your Federal Grants Specialist know if you have any questions.

Presentation Materials

All slide decks, handouts, and videos (when available), are now available on the Title Con 20/20 website. On the website, click on Conference Materials or Breakout Sessions--both pages provide links to session profiles containing session materials, but in different layout form. A reminder, in order to earn PGP points, you will need to complete the Title Con 2020 Moodle course sessions.

Indiana Census 2020

To-date, the Census return rate for Indiana is 55.2 percent with 46.5 percent of those being returned electronically. This is fantastic news! The 2020 Census count impacts the federal funds that communities receive each year for programs and services that are critical for schools, students, and younger children, such as:

  • Title I, II, III, and IV Grant Funding
  • Special Education Grant Funding
  • Head Start
  • After-School Programs
  • National School Lunch Program (including free and reduced-price school lunches)
  • Maternal and Child Health Programs

Here are links for additional information on the Indiana Census 2020 and Statistics in School: Classrooms Powered by Census Data. IDOE has also created an informational video further outlining the federal funding implications of the 2020 Census count.

If you have not received anything from the Census Bureau yet, you can still respond online. Visit the online form and select “Start Questionnaire.” Below the ID field, click the link that says, “If you do not have a Census ID, click here.”

In 2010, the Indiana return rate was 69.6 percent. Let's work hard to meet, and surpass, the 2010 return rate to ensure Hoosiers receive all the funding we can to support our communities in need.
