EdisonNewsletter!

Dear Edison Family,

We have several exciting events and celebrations to share with you as we head into the final weeks of the school year.

First, we had a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week on our campus. Our teachers truly felt the love and support, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents and students who brought cards, notes, treats, and kind gestures to honor them. Your generosity and thoughtfulness made the week extra special for our staff.

Our Kindergarten Graduation will take place on May 20th. This is an important milestone for our students, and we look forward to celebrating their growth and accomplishments. Please see the flyer below for ceremony details.

On May 11th, our Kindergarten students will participate in a visit to 2nd grade at Chalmers to help support a smooth transition to the next campus. Additional information can be found on the flyer below.

Field Day is scheduled for May 13th and is always a favorite event for our students. Be sure to review the Field Day flyer below for grade‑level schedules and reminders.

We are also incredibly proud to share that three of our students participated in the Texas Elementary Art Show—and all earned medals! Please join us in congratulating:

  • Brendan Tolomei
  • Braelynn Matthews
  • Kreedence Cox

We are so proud of their creativity and hard work.

Thank you for your continued support of Edison Elementary. We are grateful for our students, families, and staff, and we look forward to celebrating these special moments together.

⭐ Character Lesson of the Month: Courage

Courage isn’t just about big, heroic moments—it shows up in small, everyday ways for our students. Courage is raising your hand when you’re unsure, trying something new, standing up for a friend, or keeping going when something feels hard.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Recurring reminders:

Traffic Reminder 🚗

To help keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently, please turn right when exiting the school during arrival and dismissal. This small change will help reduce congestion and ensure a smoother transition for all families. Thank you for your cooperation!

Also, when crossing the street or high traffic areas, please make sure to be crossed by a crossing guard at the cross walk, thank you.

Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.

Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.

Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.

Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick. If they are sick please leave a doctors note with the front office.

School policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...

Transportation Changes: ALL Transportation changes must be made no later that 12pm. Any changes after that time cannot be made. Thank you,

Character Trait: Creativity

🎨 Growing Creativity at Home

Creativity is all about using imagination, trying new ideas, and expressing yourself in different ways. In kindergarten, we encourage students to think outside the box—and families can help nurture that creativity at home too!

Here are some simple ways to build creativity together:

✨ Let them create freely
Provide crayons, paper, blocks, or even recycled materials and let your child explore without specific directions. There’s no “right” way to create!

🎭 Encourage pretend play
Dress-up clothes, puppets, or acting out favorite stories helps children use their imagination and build confidence.

📖 Make up stories together
Take turns adding to a silly or imaginative story. Let your child lead the way—you might be surprised where their ideas go!

🎶 Explore music and movement
Dance in the living room, sing songs, or make up your own! Movement and rhythm spark creative expression.

❓ Ask open-ended questions
Instead of yes/no questions, try:

  • “What else could this be?”
  • “How did you think of that idea?”
  • “What might happen next?”

🌿 Think outside the box (literally!)
Turn everyday items into something new—boxes can become castles, rockets, or cars!

💡 Celebrate effort, not perfection
Praise your child’s ideas and effort rather than the final product. Creativity grows when children feel safe to try.

💛 Remember: Creativity isn’t just about art—it’s about thinking, problem-solving, and expressing ideas in unique ways every day!
