What is Queen of Hearts?
Each year the American Heart Association’s Queen of Hearts campaign brings together a group of young leaders to make an impact on women’s heart health in the Tri-Cities. During this 8-week campaign, young people who want to make a difference are empowered with the training and resources to take action for their own heart health and the hearts of those around them.
We are thrilled to share that Aniston Barnette, from Tennessee High School was the American Heart Association’s 2024 National Impact Winner! We are excited to build on this incredible momentum by identifying high school students with a passion for making a difference to join us for the 2025 Queen of Hearts Campaign.

She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting.
He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites.
The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.
Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done.
When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.

Lady Pioneers Send Jennings Out a Winner - TriCitiesSports.com
Monday, Oct. 28th, 2024 - Tanner Cook
GRAY — David Crockett’s message the entire cross country season has been to send out retiring coach Mark Jennings out on the best note possible.
The Lady Pioneers did just that at Monday’s Region 1-A/AA championships at Daniel Boone by claiming a fourth team title in five years, led by senior Maggie Bellamy’s individual win.
“It means a lot to be the first region champion and Jennings has been really big all year about getting different wins since this is his last year coaching,” Bellamy said. “The whole time I was running the race, I was thinking about trying to become the first region champion.
“This couldn’t have been a more perfect senior year because we swept at conference and now we did it at region. It’s really special, too, that we get to send Jennings out as a champion coach.”
Bellamy broke away from Elizabethton freshman Arvella Nave a little over halfway into the race and crossed the finish line in 19:52.1, which was the fastest time of the day on the girls side for the undulating 5-kilometer course.
It was also the first time that Crockett has recorded an individual girls region champion. And it’s just the latest in a long line of Crockett firsts for Bellamy, who will continue her running career at Lipscomb next fall.
“Maggie put on a stellar performance today and that was our first region individual championship ever,” Jennings said. “When it got to be over there at the crest of the hill and I saw Maggie coming over it, I knew we had this one.”
Jennings took over a girls program that had historically struggled, having only made the state once (1982) before this recent stretch over the last decade or so.
Now, the Lady Pioneers have a legitimate program that is consistently one of the tops regardless of classification.
“When I first came, we were struggling to put a girls team together,” Jennings said. “If we had five girls out there running, it was considered a victory.”
Rounding out the scoring for Crockett was Savannah Piazza (third, 21:10.9), Olivia Ogle (seventh, 21:23.4), Kiley Moore (12th, 22:20.0) and Ivy Newlon (23rd, 24:31.3).
The top four teams and the top five individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to next week’s state meet in Hendersonville at Sanders Ferry Park.
“It was a really close race and we had a lot of trouble back there at our fifth runner,” Jennings said. “Savannah bouncing back really helped us out today and she’s not feeling the best today either. Kiley Moore only had a one-second season’s best from the last race, but still, she’s getting faster.”
Elizabethton (46), University School of Johnson City (72) and Sullivan East (125) clinched the final three team spots.
The individual qualifiers were Tennessee High’s Jenna Reecher (fourth, 21:12.9), Unicoi County’s Braydin Baresel (ninth, 21:43.8), Jellico’s Alhena Dalcerri (10th, 22:11.1), Volunteer’s Lillie Bullock (15th, 23:14.5) and Greeneville’s Darla Kammerdiener (17th, 23:28.3).

FFA
From David Crockett FFA:
What a week at the 97th National FFA Convention! This week we were able to attend sessions at the Lucas Oil Stadium, spend lots of money shopping, participate in workshops, explore the expo center, and learn who can and can’t wake up early in the morning. As this trip was a first for many of our officer members, it surely brought us together. We are incredibly thankful for the opportunities to meet ones we look up to and those from states far away.
Our very own, former president and Tennessee state officer, Mary Beth Collette, also received her American Degree. We are so proud and have loved seeing her accomplish so much. David Crockett FFA loves you and is always rooting for you in all you do. Keep doing big things!
