Peace and blessings to you all!
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” - Matthew 5:3
As we begin the second semester, this Beatitude invites us to start fresh with humility, openness, and hope. To be “poor in spirit” is to recognize that we are always learning, growing, and relying on God and one another. For our STMY students, Semester Two is truly a new beginning, an opportunity to reset goals, embrace challenges, and step forward with confidence and faith. We are excited to welcome students to semester 2 and encourage them to see this semester as a chance for renewal. If any students have questions about schedules, updated timetables can be provided at the office.
We are proud to celebrate many recent successes in our school. Congratulations to Ms. Stuart for organizing a very successful Senior Boys Basketball Tournament this weekend, and congratulations to her and our Senior Boys team for winning the Consolation Prize! A sincere thank you to all the volunteers who supported with the canteen and assisted with clean-up. Your time and generosity make these events possible. Congratulations as well to our Senior Girls basketball team and Coach Kobelsky and Coach Gabruck for capturing bronze at the VCHS tournament! We are very proud of your efforts and sportsmanship!
This week is Teachers’ Convention, making it a short but busy three-day week. Our teachers look forward to this time of professional growth, collaboration, and renewal as they continue to strengthen their practice in service of our students. Despite the shortened week, it will be a full one as we launch the new semester, host Junior High basketball games, and welcome NET Ministries on Tuesday for a faith retreat for students in Grades 7-10.
As we move forward together, may this semester be filled with learning, perseverance, and grace. We look forward to all that God has in store for our school community. And that said, keep your eyes out on Social Media for some exciting announcements next week!
Blessings for a wonderful week ahead!
With gratitude,
The STMY Administration Team

NET Ministries Student Faith Retreat
REAL Foundation Representative Needed!
Winter is Here!
In the past couple of weeks, we have noticed that many of our students have not been dressed properly for the frigid and snowy conditions that are upon us. As winter weather sets in, we ask all students to dress appropriately for cold, snowy, and icy conditions. Warm coats, hats, gloves, and proper footwear are essential to ensure safety and comfort while traveling to and from school and during outdoor activities. While we appreciate our students' expression of style, Birkenstocks are best saved for warmer weather! They pair better with sunshine than snowbanks! Students will not be allowed to participate in fieldtrips, sports activities, etc., unless they are properly dressed! Thank you for your support in helping our students stay safe, warm, and ready to learn this winter.

Riley Warawa to Participate in World's Longest Hockey Game!
Riley Warawa, one of our Gr. 12 students at St. Mary's has the opportunity and the privilege to participate in the World Longest Hockey Game starting on February 5th and he needs your support!
On Thursday, February 5th, forty players, hundreds of volunteers, and countless fans will come together at centre ice to prove they have fire in their hearts and ice in their veins, with one shared goal: a future free of cancer.
The world's longest hockey game is an annual charity event in Alberta, Canada, organized by Brent Saik, which most recently lasted 262 continuous hours (11 days) in early 2024, setting a new Guinness World Record for a marathon hockey game to raise funds for children's cancer research and care, with players rotating shifts on an outdoor rink through extreme cold. Previous records by the same event included 252 hours in 2021, breaking their own 2018 record of 251 hours, with players enduring freezing temperatures to support the Alberta Children's Hospital and Cure Cancer Foundation.
If you would like to help Riley fundraise for this event, please click his fundraising link or scan the QR Code below. Way to go Riley! We are so proud to be rooting for you!
