MCAVINNUE'S PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello McAvinnue Community!

I hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the fine weekend we are having! I am love this time of the year with cool and crips mornings followed by warmer temperatures in the afternoon. For this upcoming week, it looks like the projected weather forecast will be in the low to mid 70's with a warmer Friday to wrap things up. Good news to get some outside recess!

As you know, McAvinnue's first full week will finally occur this upcoming week! So far, it has been a super smooth launch to the school year! We've already had many moments of highly engaging lessons, students working hard and making great choices, amazing lunch options in our cafeteria, and some fun time outside enjoying the nice weather during recess! We are back in full swing of things...exciting but exhausting times at McAvinnue!

We completed our first iReady Math diagnostic testing session of the school year this past week. Students worked hard and were eager to "show what they know" on this important foundational benchmark assessment. We will continue with the iReady Reading diagnostic testing session this upcoming week. The results will be used to create instructional groups for our students as we launch into the meat of our new instruction in the upcoming weeks.

We are excited to host our first family event at on Thursday, September 25th from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM....McAvinnue's "Back To School Bash"! We needed to adjust the date for this event due to the availabilty of some of our community partners.

As many know, this has been such a fantastic family event at McAvinnue that we have done annually for multiple years. We are so excited to host this annual event once again! The weather looks like it will be perfect...so, we can't wait to see everyone for some fun to end the week! We on the look out for updates and announcements throughout this week!

The Fall season officially begins on Monday, September 22nd and we expect the weather to begin to shift to cooler and more consistent temperatures. It is also important to watch the daily weather forecast and dress accordingly based on the predicted conditions. Things can change on a dime during this time of the school year...and we need to ensure that your child is dressed to head outside for recess. I would suggested wearing layers that can be taken off if the afternoon temperatures increase during the day. I appreciate your attention to this!

We are looking forward to another short but amazing week at "the best school we all know"!

Here are a few items that you need to be aware of. Please mark your calendars for the following events and activities at McAvinnue for this upcoming week:

  • Monday, September 15th - McAvinnue Reopens @ 9:10 AM
  • Tuesday, September 16th - Wednesday, September 17th - iReady Reading Diagnostic Assessment (Grades 1 - 4)
  • Monday, September 22nd - First Day Of Fall

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Main Office at McAvinnue or send Mr. Domina a message a mdomina@lowell.k12.ma.us.

McAvinnue's "Mindfulness Pose Of The Week"

We will kick off our mindfulness focus with this classic technique this week called the "Ocean Breath". This new technique will allow us to remain calm by finding our "center" and imagining the flow of waves at the ocean. We will practice the "Ocean Breath" technique this week during our Morning Announcements during this up and coming week.

You can get an early head start and practice this technique before we launch into another exciting week!

Surf’s Up, McAvinnue!

We’re only 7 days, if you are in Kindergarten, or 11 days, if you are in another grade level, into the school year, and already the opportunities to puzzle with ST Math are making waves! JiJi is surfing into classrooms with problem-solving power.

Our Puzzle Goal Progress: 6%

Puzzles Solved So Far: Over 55,000!

We’re excited to announce the Golden JiJi Trophy Unveiling... This week, the award goes to Lucas Adeboi for amazing 4th grade progress!

But that’s not all. Our JiJi Postcard Celebrations are arriving at classroom doors. Every postcard is a chance to celebrate perseverance, puzzle progress, and classroom community. This year, JiJi will also be our travel guide! Each postcard will help us get to know a new, special place in the world. Maybe you’ve been there, or maybe one day you’ll go. But for now, we’ll explore it together through JiJi’s eyes. HRs 307 and 204 have reached the 10% mark and have received their postcards.

To kick things off for one of our Kindergarten classrooms, JiJi made a special visit to Room 205 on their very first day of puzzling! What an exciting way to start the journey!

Let’s keep the puzzles flowing, the progress growing, and the celebrations glowing. Here’s to an exciting year at McAvinnue!
