Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe, but we are entering the final six weeks of the school year! Every spring, I find myself amazed at how quickly the year flies by. I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year. Middle school is a unique and often challenging time—for students and families alike—and it can bring back a mix of memories from our own middle school days. It truly is an honor to be entrusted with your children each day. We are committed to providing them with a top-notch education, and we couldn’t do it without your partnership.

8th Grade Promotion Ceremony – Save the Date!
We are excited to celebrate our 8th graders as they complete their middle school journey! The 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 4 at 1:00 PM in the KMS gym. There is no limit to the number of guests you may bring, so feel free to invite family and friends to celebrate your student’s accomplishment. Doors to the middle school will open at 12:45 PM. Please note that parking can be tight, so we encourage you to plan ahead and allow time to park and walk to the building.

We look forward to ending the year on a high note and celebrating all that our students have accomplished!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Skelton

Communication Spotlight Communication Spotlight

Middle school is a busy time for orthodontic appointments, physicals, and other commitments. To ensure a smooth pickup process, please call the office or enter the appointment in Skyward at the start of the school day if your child needs to leave early. This allows us to have them ready on time.

Bus Transportation Forms Bus Transportation Forms

Bus transportation forms are coming home on Monday, April 21. If your child plans to ride the bus next school year you must fill one out and return it to the KMS office by May 15. Please fill one out for every child riding the bus in your household.

ATTENTION! Password Changes ATTENTION! Password Changes

Keeping our passwords private and our accounts secure is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, all current 5th grade and 8th grade student passwords will be changing on July 7th. This change is necessary as 6th grade and 9th grade students have increased password security requirements.

In late June, an email will be sent out to student email accounts containing their new password. We kindly ask that you remind your child to write it down in a safe place for future reference. Once the password changes are made, your child will not be able to use their current password to access their accounts.

More specific information will be shared with families in May and June.

Hi KSD Community!

Things have been quite busy around here as we have headed into April. I know most students and staff are anticipating the warmer temperatures with more outdoor activities.

Classroom Lessons:

This month I will present classroom lessons to 6th grade students with a focus on options for post-secondary education along with a discussion on career options and an opportunity for students to review the goals they wrote earlier in the school year. There will not be any formal lessons for 7th grade. Eighth graders had the opportunity to listen to some Career Speakers with topics including: CNC Machining, Interactive Media Design, Criminal Justice (with our own Office Aaron Roth), Cybersecurity/IT (with our district’s Technology Director, Tiffany Wilson), Small Business, Acting, and PR/Communications for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Student Appointments:

I maintain contact with students based on self-referrals, staff/administrative referrals, and parent referrals. Students can continue to reach out to me by using the app on their Launchpad to schedule a meeting, emailing me to request a time to meet, or by stopping by my office. It is also very reasonable for parents to reach out to me by phone or email with any concerns regarding their child.

Resources:

These resources were recently shared with me, so I wanted to pass them along.

Thank you,

Rachel Weber, KMS Counselor
