Future Focus is a series of events that the team at Leyden created as a way to highlight many of the options available to students after high school. These post secondary pathways are broken down into four main categories: Military, Triton College (two-year colleges), the Trades, and Four-Year College. Each of the pathways will receive one dedicated week during the school year where students will learn about the options and engage in activities that further help them prepare for their futures.

This week’s Future Focus Pathway will focus on the Military. Military recruiters will be at school during lunch periods, military personnel will come visit and meet with students, and students will also have the opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test.

West Ecology Club expands prairie outside of school

The West Leyden Ecology Club is making great strides in expanding the prairie planting project outside of the school. Already a thriving habitat for native species like monarch caterpillars, the students are now working to increase biodiversity by adding more native plants to attract and support even more butterflies and birds. This inspiring effort has been driven by the passion and dedication of students Javier Gomez and Wiktor Mindowicz since their freshman year. A recent photo captures a monarch butterfly laying eggs on one of their milkweed plants, right by the greenhouse, showcasing the real impact of their work
