BELIEVE, ENJOY, ACHIEVE
'Overthorpe is more than a school-
We are the heart of the community.
In our family, we nurture the courage,
And skills to fly higher than the flock,
Whilst always providing a nest,
To come home to.'

Headteacher's comment
We have enjoyed a terrific start to the summer term and it has been wonderful to welcome all of the children back to school. They have returned with a positive attitude and a real readiness to learn, which has made for a very purposeful and settled start to the term.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Reception starters to Overthorpe. Yesterday, families found out their school places and we are delighted that they will be joining our school community in September. We look forward to meeting our new children and their families over the coming weeks.
This week, we have also welcomed a number of trainee teachers into school. They will be working alongside our skilled teaching team until July, developing their practice and learning from the strong provision across Overthorpe. We are pleased to play a role in supporting the next generation of teachers.
Staff have held a number of pupil progress meetings this week. These meetings give us a valuable opportunity to celebrate the learning progress children have made, while also carefully identifying next steps to support every child on their individual learning journey.
Looking ahead to next week, we will be submitting entries to our Trust handwriting competition and we are proud of the effort and care pupils have put into their work. We will also be welcoming a number of governors from across our Trust to Overthorpe for SEND training, which reflects our ongoing commitment to inclusive practice.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a super weekend.

Year 6 SATs Breakfast
As in previous years, we are pleased to welcome all children into school for their breakfast during SATs week.
They will come in through the main office, this will be open for them from 8.10am Monday 11th May until Thursday 14th May.
They will be able to have toast and cereal, with fresh juice to set them up for the tests ahead. It also allows the children to chat with friends before they start, speak to their teacher about any worries, and most importantly make sure that they arrive in good time and in a positive mind set.
Collective Worship
Emmeline Pankhurst
This week in Collective Worship, the children learned about Emmeline Pankhurst, a courageous and determined woman who dedicated her life to campaigning for women’s right to vote. Living in the early 20th century, Emmeline founded the Women’s Social and Political Union and worked tirelessly—often facing arrest and great personal challenge—to ensure that women’s voices were heard and valued in society. Through her story, the children explored the importance of standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult. This half-term, our worships are centred around British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Through these themes, we aim to deepen the children’s understanding of the world around them, helping them to recognise their role within it. We encourage them to live out these values each day, growing into thoughtful, respectful individuals who are equipped to make a positive difference within their community and beyond.
