What is Zest?

Zest means approaching a situation, or life in general, with excitement and energy, not approaching tasks or activities halfway or halfheartedly. People who are high in zest are excited to get up in the morning, and they live their lives like an adventure. Zest is a dynamic strength that is directly related to physical and psychological wellness. This strength has the strongest ties to overall life satisfaction and a life of engagement.

Zest influences the way you show up in the world, it can shape your focus, fuel your passion, and enhance your sense of purpose. People with high zest often look for the positive in their day-to-day experience, which can lead to greater well-being and satisfaction.

We’ve had a productive, engaging, and energizing week as we’ve returned from spring break! It has been wonderful to see our students back in action, learning, collaborating, and bringing great energy into our classrooms.

Shortly before break, members of our team received exciting news about grant awards from the Zionsville Education Foundation (ZEF). We are incredibly grateful for their support of innovative and creative ideas that directly benefit our students. The partnership we share with both ZEF and our amazing PTO continues to elevate the experiences we can provide for our school community. We truly could not do this work at the same level without their support—thank you!

In addition, Boone Meadow was honored this week at the Indiana Statehouse for our outstanding achievement in literacy through our IREAD results. Our very own Cindi Hamlow (BME Literacy Coach) and I had the privilege of representing our school at this recognition. This honor reflects the collective dedication of our students, staff, and families—a true team effort that we celebrate together!

As we head into the weekend, here are a few important highlights and reminders:

  • Boone Meadow Bash (PTO) is just TWO weeks away! Tickets are now on sale, and we’re thrilled to share that Boomer, the Indiana Pacers mascot, will be performing twice! Don’t miss out on this fun-filled event.
  • PTO Meeting on Tuesday, April 14 - The PTO will hold a brief meeting at 6:00 PM and continue preparations for the Bash before and after the meeting. I'm sure they would accept any assistance with crafting for the Bash.
  • ILEARN Testing begins next week for all 3rd and 4th grade students and will continue into the following week. This is the summative portion of testing and requires a bit more time and focus. Timely arrival and consistent attendance are incredibly helpful in supporting our students during this time.
  • Morning Crosswalk Assistance will resume next week with staff members (typically Ms. Lorena and Mr. Gatlin) supporting student arrival. If a staff member is not present, families are welcome to walk students to the front door between 7:45–8:00 AM.
  • School Supply Pre-Orders for next year are now available! This convenient option allows supplies to be delivered directly to school—saving you time and hassle. Please note that neither the school nor PTO profits from this service. More information and the ordering link can be found below.
  • Student Council “Penny War”: Our student leaders are excited to give back by supporting the Boone County Humane Society. Students can bring in spare change to “vote” for a favorite school treat, with all proceeds going directly to the Humane Society. It’s a fun way to build community while making a positive impact!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We are so fortunate to be part of such a caring and engaged school community.

Wishing you a wonderful, relaxing spring weekend!

All the best,

Team Meadow, Tom & Jarrod

Get ready for a fun and meaningful way to give back! Next week, April 13-17, Boone Meadow students will take part in Penny Wars—a school-wide fundraiser where every coin counts and every student gets to vote for a special treat.

How It Works - Each day has a featured coin or bill:

  • Monday: Pennies
  • Tuesday: Nickels
  • Wednesday: Dimes
  • Thursday: Quarters
  • Friday: Dollar Bills

Vote for Your Favorite Snack! - Students will drop their money into the bucket of the treat they want the most. The choices are Popcorn, Ice Cream, Popsicles, or Kona Ice

What Happens Next? At the end of the week, we’ll total up each bucket. The snack with the most money wins—and the whole school gets to enjoy it!

Why Penny Wars? Our students want to support a great cause. Student council determined that 100% of money collected will be donated to the Boone County Humane Society to help care for animals in need.

Thank you for supporting our students as they learn the importance of giving back—while having a little fun along the way!

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer's first volunteer experience, the individual must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days before the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state-mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
