Message from the Executive Headteacher Message from the Executive Headteacher

The May half term is just around the corner and I hope you are all looking forward to it as the sun looks like it may shine. The final half term of the school year is always very busy with exciting events and visits which the children gain so much from as well as activities to ensure the children are well prepared for their next step on their journey. Please ensure you have checked the website calendar and the weekly communication document for important dates so you can discuss this with your child.

As you know the HPPA pre-loved uniform sale was cancelled due to lack of volunteers to run it which was such a shame. You will be aware that the HPPA team is stepping down this summer and HPP may be in the position that events will not be able to run next school year. The current team has done a tremendous job and raised so much for the children but we really do need volunteers to take up the Chair and Treasurer role from September. Please contact HPPA or myself if you would like to find out more about this and are able to help.

This week HPPA ran Rags 2 Riches which raised £90.18 and the next big event will be the HPPA Summer Fayre - Saturday 27th June, again we need volunteers and it really can't run without -please click here to sign up. The schools rely on this event to raise a significant amount so please do help and come along.

HPP's main form of communication is Arbor however we are in the process of reviewing our social media presence. Prior to any change, we wanted to reach out to parents and ensure that we are focusing our efforts on the right platform. The site would be used to celebrate work, share pictures and provide information about the school and its successes. Could we ask parents/carers to complete the below survey to gain the popularity of each platform that you currently use on a regular basis?

Houses

As school leaders continue to bring the two schools ever closer together, we will be introducing the successful and popular houses from HJS to the HISN. We believe that the house provides an opportunity for children to work with peers outside of their class and allow friendly competition and has been successfully in place for many years at HJS.

Bushy- Green

Hampton - Yellow

Thames- Blue

Tudor -Red

All pupils (except Nursery) at HISN will be placed in a house within their class, with each class having children from all 4 houses and they will stay in that house for the duration of their time at HPP. We will place younger children in the same house as their older sibling who is already in a house at HJS or HISN.

All children at HISN will need a house colour PE top which is one of the 3 branded items for the school and for the first time all new coloured house tops will have the HPP logo, this means that the children can continue to wear the top after they leave HISN and go to HJS. Children in Reception and Year 1 will currently have a red PE top and whilst we would like as many children as possible to have the correct colour shirt in September, we understand that this may not be possible and the red tops will be accepted until the end of the Autumn term 2026.

We are excited about this development and sure that the houses at HISN will be positive for the children.

I wish you a relaxing holiday and remind you that tomorrow is Inset day and closed to children.

Aspirations Week Aspirations Week

As a successful partnership, we aspire to ensure that all pupils ‘be the best that they can be’ and in doing so provide them with many opportunities as they progress through the schools. We have high expectations for all our students and want them to develop into successful individuals who have a passion for life and learning. That passion is often more powerful when they have clear aspirations and goals for themselves.

During our Aspiration days, we would like to provide all pupils with a chance to reflect on their own goals and, in doing so, raise their awareness of future opportunities.

Parents, we need you!

As part of this process we would like to enlighten the pupils' understanding of the huge variety of careers that are currently available today. For this to be successful, we would like to invite parents in to talk to classes, or groups of children, about their careers, qualifications and what their jobs entail. We envisage that this will be a short presentation which the school will provide a number of suggested talking points. This activity will occur across the 3 days (Wednesday 1st July, Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July) so we hope that parents will be able to give up a short amount of time to support this initiative.

Initially, if you feel that you are able to come into school and share your experiences with some of the children please complete the below form. Please note, the presentation could be at either / or both schools. Following this, a member of the executive leadership team will contact you to discuss next steps.

Governors' News Governors' News

School Day Timings Parent Consultation - The Department for Education (DfE) has set an expectation for Key Stage 1 and 2 in mainstream state-funded schools to provide a 32.5-hour week, which equates to 6.5 hours per day. Currently, HJS is compliant with this expectation, but HISN is not, which creates a potential area of concern for future inspections. To bring HISN into compliance, we are proposing new school day timings. We would be grateful if you would read the attached for further information on this proposal.

HPP Parents’ and Carers’ Survey 2026 - Each year the Governors send out a survey for the academic year. We would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the below form to provide your feedback. The closing date for replies is Friday, 12th June.

Rights Respecting Rights Respecting

At our school, we are proud to be a Rights Respecting community where every child's voice matters. With four forms in each year group, our school is a big, vibrant family, and we work hard to ensure it is a safe, happy place for everyone to grow and learn. Each half term, we focus on a specific right from the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, exploring what it means in our classrooms and on the playground. This half term, our focus has been "The right to be treated fairly." Through our stories, assemblies, and daily play, we have been talking with the children about kindness, sharing, and making sure everyone feels included. We would love for you to join the conversation at home by speaking to your child about what fairness means to them.

Year 1 Year 1

Year 1’s visit to Brooklands Museum last week was great fun! The sun was shining and we enjoyed learning all about transport through the ages, as well as taking part in a scavenger hunt and taking a ‘trip’ on Concorde. We had great fun exploring various cars, bikes, buses and planes, identifying how these have evolved over time into the different modes of transport we have today. Please take a look at some photos of the day on the school website gallery - here.

We would also like to give a huge shout out to all of the amazing parents who kindly gave up their time to accompany us on our visit to Brooklands. We would not be able to take the children on these wonderful experiences if it wasn’t for your kind support – THANK YOU!

Back in school, we have been learning all about ‘Amazing Animals’ in science, discussing the features of different animals, what different animals eat, and how we can group these according to different criteria. We have learnt what it means to be a carnivore, herbivore and omnivore and sorted animals into the relevant group according to their diet. We have also been learning that an animal with a spine is a vertebrate and one without is an invertebrate. We studied various creatures before sorting them into their appropriate groups according to whether or not they had a spine.

In history this half term, we have been thinking about what it means to be a monarch. We have been thinking about monarchs of the past, discussing the features of a ‘good’ monarch. We then discussed what laws and rules we would introduce if we were a monarch of the past. We have also been learning about William the Conqueror, the first Norman Monarch of England. We learnt about William’s role in the Battle of Hastings, using the Bayeux Tapestry, before working in pairs to create freeze frames from the Bayeux Tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings.

In design and technology, we have been enjoying our new textiles topic and thinking about how to create our own hand puppet. We practised our running stitches on scrap fabric and we have been thinking about the design of our puppet, choosing the colour of our fabric and thinking about additional design features in preparation for putting it all together in the forthcoming weeks.

In computing, we have been practising logging on to the Chrome books using our own logins. We then opened up Google slides and practised typing text and using the various icons and keyboard buttons to edit, delete and change the format of our text.

It’s been a busy but fun-packed half term, and we hope you and your children all enjoy a wonderful half term break in readiness for the final push towards the summer.

Amazon Wish Lists Amazon Wish Lists

Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.

This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.

If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:

Parking Parking

Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
