Mustang Messenger 3/12/26
Some thoughts for the starting school year
March 12, 2026
A Message from the Principal
Dear St. Matthias Families,
Last Friday and the beginning of this week, our faculty and staff participated in professional learning designed to strengthen teaching and support student success. These days provided valuable time for teachers to learn new instructional strategies, reflect on student learning, and collaborate as a school community.
During our sessions, teachers explored how to use NWEA MAP testing data more effectively to guide instruction and develop small-group learning based on studentsβ individual needs. This work helps ensure that students receive the right level of challenge and support in the classroom.
Faculty also participated in sessions focused on building positive classroom culture and strengthening relationships with students. Teachers learned about brain science and how understanding student behavior can help create classrooms that are supportive, structured, and responsive to student needs.
In addition, time was dedicated to team collaboration and leadership development, helping our faculty continue to grow as a strong and unified learning community.
These professional learning experiences allow our teachers to continue refining their practice so that every student at St. Matthias receives excellent instruction and meaningful support.
During this time, our faculty also began planning several family-centered events and school activities for the months ahead. From March through June, we are excited to create opportunities that bring our students, families, and school community together.
Please keep an eye out for upcoming announcements about school events, family activities, and community gatherings. We encourage all families to participate whenever possible, as these moments help strengthen the relationships that make St. Matthias such a special place.
With gratitude,
Dr. Coretta N. Streat
Principal

π National Reading Month
March is National Reading Month, a time when we place special emphasis on building strong reading habits in our students.
Research consistently shows that regular reading has a powerful impact on academic success.
Even small amounts of daily reading make a difference. The more students read, the more words they encounter and the stronger their literacy skills become.
Below is a helpful illustration showing the impact of reading just a few minutes each day.
π 8th Grade Graduation Preparations
Our 8th grade scholars have successfully completed their high school applications and have received their acceptance letters. They are now in the final stages of discerning and selecting the schools that will become the next step in their educational journey.
This is an exciting and important time for our students and their families. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and accomplishments during their time at St. Matthias.
As they make these important decisions, we ask our school community to keep our 8th grade scholars in your prayers as they consider the schools that will help them continue to grow academically, spiritually, and personally.
β° On-Time Arrival Matters
Our school day begins with morning prayer and Scripture, allowing students to start their day grounded in faith.
β’ School begins promptly at 8:00 AM
β’ Students arriving after 8:05 AM are considered late
Arriving on time ensures students participate in morning prayer and begin the day prepared for learning.
