Important Information

Please make sure your child's jacket has his or her name written on the tag. We will go outside for recess everyday unless it is raining. if your child lost his/her jacket, you are welcome to come anytime by the school and check the lost and found area.

Please send a bottle with water (preferably in a thermos) daily. Make sure it has your child's name written on it. Drinking from the water fountain is not healthy for our little kindergarteners when unsupervised. We have had several students getting sick.

  • Mrs Alvarez and Mrs. Velasquez from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.

The last group leaves at 11:30 for class, please plan accordingly and get on time. Students can not take food with them.

Make sure you check the lunch menu daily, many students are not eating enough because they don't like the school's lunch. Please talk to your child about their food preferences. Do not send snacks in lunch boxes. If you do, make sure your child is aware. Some students are not lining up for a tray, and end up eating only snacks for lunch.

Writing - Escritura

This month we will be working on our grammar, learning about sustantives and verbs as parts of a sentence.

We will also begin our end of the school year testing.

Please make sure your child practices handwriting, and stretching sounds as they write. Practice sight words daily to facilitate their writing and reading fluency.

Have your child work with playdough to strengthen his/her hands' muscles and improve fine motor skills. He or she can also practice cutting magazines or old coloring books.

Phonics - English

  • Identifying sounds: -ck (back, track) -ss (class, grass) -ff (stuff, bluff) -ll (ball, hall) and -z (blitz, buzz)
  • Identifying digraphs: /sh/ (fish, shoe) and /ch/ (chain, chip)
  • Isolate sounds in a given word. For example: mat. This word has the sounds /m/ /a/ /t/. Give your child different words and have them recognize the sounds they hear.
  • Blending phonemes into words. Blending means to combine 2 or more sounds to form a word. In this case, you might give your child the sounds /b/ /o/ /x/ to form the word box.
  • Please continue to work with letter names and sounds. Use flash cards to assist with learning letters, making sure the cards are not in ABC order.

Our main focus this month is numbers 50 to 100. Students must be able to count, identify and form any given number up to 100.
