Better Together: Smart Watches

Over the past few years, more and more smart watches are being brought to school. While we understand that these watches are essential for communication outside of school, we need your help in speaking with students about the appropriate use of the watch during school hours.

During the school day, smart watches should be set to silent or school mode and should only function as a way to tell time and should not be used to text, call or play games/apps. We have had multiple occasions in which interruptions such as calls and texts from relatives during school hours and alarms going off during instruction. We have also had parents show up at the building stating that they received a text from their child about not feeling well which becomes tricky when the teacher and clinic have no knowledge of the issue or communication. We have many adults in the building that will help your student if they are not feeling well. If you get a message, please ask them to go to the office.

The BOE policy around this topic is included below. Thank you in advance for your support on this topic! Please reach out with any questions!
