SPASH Students and Families:

Happy October! It’s hard to believe that the month of September is already in the rear view mirror and we’re starting the second month of the year. We are also halfway through the first quarter!

We hope your student has settled into a strong school and academic routine as we move into the second month of the school year. October is a pivotal month focused on academic growth and planning—and we need your partnership!

Next week is Homecoming 2026 at SPASH! This newsletter contains some reminders about homecoming week (including dance ticket info), information regarding the 2026 SPASH musical Matilda, as well as some other important reminders. We also have included important details about the fall PreACT testing happening on October 22nd, an essential step in preparing our students for college entrance exams.

As always, thank you for your steady support and engagement. It is a privilege working with and serving your students.

SPASH Homecoming 2026 SPASH Homecoming 2026

We will celebrate Homecoming 2026 the week of Monday, October 5th through Saturday, October 10th. This week will feature a variety of student activities and opportunities to celebrate and demonstrate our school spirit including dress-up days, window decorating, service projects, and float building. The Mr. SPASH contest will be held on Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00 PM in the field house.

On Friday, October 9th we will continue our celebration with our annual Homecoming Parade and Pepfest. We will follow a modified class schedule in the morning from 7:35 AM - 11:00 AM. The parade will begin at 12:15 PM and march from Washington Elementary School to Goerke. Pepfest will begin at approximately 1:00 PM. This is part of our school day and all students are encouraged to attend. Parents and families are always welcome.

The annual SPASH homecoming dance will be on Saturday, October 10th from 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM in the SPASH field house. Tickets will be sold October 5 - 8 during the lunch hours in the lower commons. Ticket price $15.00. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Fall PreACT Testing

We are now only a few weeks away from the PreACT for all sophomores and juniors. This PreACT day provides our students with the opportunity to prepare for the state-mandated PreACT and ACT in March by completing a practice version of the assessment in the same location and with the same procedures that we’ll use next semester. Students will also receive detailed feedback on their practice test, which provides them the opportunity to further prepare for the March assessment if desired.

Please note that all sophomores and juniors (including OLC students) are required to be at SPASH on Thursday, October 22, 2026 by 7:35 AM for testing and seniors will have an E-learning day. Buses will run normal routes in both the morning and afternoon and we will serve both breakfast and lunch. Students are allowed to leave once testing is completed; however, should a student need to remain at school and ride a bus home at the end of the day we will offer supervised study areas from 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM. Please also realize that we do have some students with accommodations (i.e. extended time) who will be testing throughout the afternoon.

Please watch your email for more specific information the week prior to testing.

Notification System Test Coming Soon

As we prepare for winter weather, the Stevens Point Area Public School District will conduct a test of our family notification system on October 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Families should receive the test by email, phone and text based on the contact information and preferences currently on file.

If you do not receive the test on all of your preferred devices, please log in to Skyward Family Access to review and update your contact information or contact your school office for assistance.

Testing the system now helps ensure you receive important information when weather or other circumstances affect the school day.

Thanks for helping us make sure everyone stays connected!

Please Remind Your Student to Wear Their ID Please Remind Your Student to Wear Their ID

Starting this year, we are asking all students to visibly wear their IDs as part of our increased efforts around school safety and security. IDs will be used to scan students in and out of the building during release hours efficiently, keeping us better informed of their location during the school day. Student IDs will also be scanned during lunch, allowing the line to move more quickly, in turn giving students more time to enjoy their lunch.

Junior Senior Release Reminders Junior Senior Release Reminders

Junior/Senior Release is for students who exhibit a high level of maturity and personal responsibility. It allows them to leave during their lunch or unscheduled period. Students will respect the rights of others, particularly in the library, hallways, commons, etc. Parking lots are off-limits unless a student is arriving on campus or leaving campus. Failure to meet expectations will result in the student losing this privilege. Listed below are the criteria and rules pertaining to release time.

  1. Parental and administrative approvals are required.

  2. Students must have no failures or incompletes in the prior grading period.

  3. Students must have at least a 90% attendance rate and not have more than 5 tardies during the previous quarter.

  4. Students must carry their student ID card and follow all check-in and check-out procedures.

  5. Students who have earned the release privilege and choose not to leave campus are permitted on campus but only in supervised areas. Students may be in the lower commons, library, core lab, or working under the supervision of a teacher. Released students may not be in the halls during class periods.

  6. Students will lose their release privilege if they are transporting students on/off campus who do not have Junior/Senior Release.

  7. Students are expected to use designated entrances and scan in/out using their SPASH ID upon exiting and entering the school.

  8. Students must have a positive behavioral record with no suspensions in the previous or current semester.

  9. Students must be responsible and respectful at all times. Failure to maintain these criteria or follow school rules and expectations will result in the loss of this release privilege.

SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery

What is SPASH SLR?

SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery is a Saturday morning detention session assigned by one of the Assistant Principals or Dean of Students for reasons that may include but are not limited to truancy, misconduct, misuse of PLT, or failure to follow other school rules. Students assigned to SPASH SLR will report to the SPASH LMC for the assigned time on a selected Saturday morning and engage in supervised quiet study and work completion.

Why Are We Doing This?

Student attendance and prompt work completion are primary indicators of not only academic performance but also graduation eligibility and future employment capacity.

As we continue to work with our students to improve their academic growth, we want to emphasize the importance of being present as well as engaging and completing coursework. While we have an outstanding record of student achievement, we can improve our overall attendance percentage as well as punctual work submission.

SPASH SLR offers students an opportunity to make-up missed classroom work time as well as to complete missing or incomplete work. Students who do not complete their assigned SLR will be referred for progressive discipline which could include a truancy referral as well as in-school suspension.

When and Where Will it Happen?

SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery will be in the SPASH LMC from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on select Saturdays throughout the year and supervised by a SPASH faculty or staff member. Students will work with the supervisor to set and work towards a goal for the session. Cell phones are not permitted during SLR and any Chromebook use will be supervised via Securly.

Students and parents of students assigned to SLR will be notified via the SPASH North Office.
