Powers Elementary-Weekly Newsletter
August 30th
October 28 - November 1
Hi Powers Families...
Sorry for the Sunday newsletter. I try to get them done earlier but left town Friday night to spend 38 hours in Seattle to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday.
Last chance for pictures and retakes. See below for details...
Teachers are sending out reminders to have a change of clothes at school. I think people often think of students having "accidents" as being the reason for the change of clothes but more often than not the need is frequently related to food spills, wet slides or mud puddles at recess, or an art project gone wrong. Having a basic set of clothes gets kids back on track in the classroom faster. They don't have to be fancy... Thanks for your support.
Consider going to support the Amherst Comets Football team this Friday for their playoff game. Students are encouraged to where green and gold on Friday.
Have a great week!

Halloween Reminders
Costumes Parade
We do allow students that choose to celebrate Halloween to wear costumes to school on October 31st as long as they are school appropriate (no weapons or items that would potentially be scary to other students). If you or your family do not participate in this practice, please communicate with your child's teacher so that we can make sure that an alternative activity is provided for any interested.
Treat Bags
Remember that we have agreed as a staff to not distribute treat bags for birthdays and holidays. This includes Halloween. We are grateful for the support and kind offers and gestures. However, it creates issues for us to manage and we are in agreement that students that trick or treat at home are going to get plenty of sweets from these community events. Each teacher and grade level are doing something a little different. Please check with your teacher if you have specific questions about what activities may look like in the classroom.

Mumkin Rewards on Friday
Students that earned the right to silly string me and the high seller prize of a trip to Hot Dog Heaven with SRO Gawlik, Mrs. Williams and myself will all happen on Friday, November 1st. Students will be called down to the office that qualified for this celebration. We will be broadcasting it on YouTube.com/cometslive sometime between 9:15am and 10am...
