The OMS Community Newsletter
Week of Nov. 25 - 27 & Dec. 2 - 6
Principal's Message
Dear OMS Community,
Trimester 1 ends today, 12/6. Trimester 1 report cards will be sent home towards the end of next week.
Trimester 2 begins on Monday, 12/9. Students can view their Trimester 2 schedule on PowerSchool if they click week of 12/9. Each trimester, exploratory and enrichment classes change. Students will be going to their new exploratory and enrichment classes on Monday. Grade 6 students went home with a copy of their T2 schedule today. There were technical difficulties printing Grade 7 & 8 schedules so they will receive a hard copy of their schedule next week.
A new trimester also means we will be reviewing and resetting student expectations. During lunch, we will review how students can demonstrate the 3 R's of Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness in the Cafeteria. In Grade 6, we will have students return to sitting with their team so we can re-establish Cafeteria expectations. In Grades 7 & 8, lunches will rotate for the new trimester for students who have classes with a team teacher Period 5. This will give students who are in an exploratory, enrichment, or World Language class the opportunity to eat lunch with their team.
We have a new school counselor joining our counseling department next week. Mr. Needham will be the new Grade 6 School Counselor. He will send an email to Grade 6 families introducing himself next week.
Sincerely,
Katrina Crowley
Principal

Mass Cultural Council Art Grant
7th and 8th grade art clubs started this week (6th grade art club will start on 12/18). This school year grade level art clubs were lucky to run with the assistance of a grant from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its F25 Creative Projects for Schools Program. This grant signifies that OMS Visual Art Department and Art Clubs provides significant public value through its programs and services. This grant will help over sixty 6th, 7th and 8th grade students participate in an afterschool art program where they can socialize with peers while exploring more advanced art techniques and mediums that they cannot get during their visual art classes.
For this fiscal year, Mass Cultural Council has adopted a $34 million spending plan, allowing the Agency to award at least 2,500 grants totaling approximately $38 million to the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector. This is funded primarily through public dollars, including the Agency’s $26.7 million state budget appropriation and support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The agency also runs the Mass Cultural Facilities Fund in partnership with MassDevelopment.
Mass Cultural Council funds reach every community in the Commonwealth. Its mission is to advance the Commonwealth’s creative and cultural sector by celebrating traditions and talents, championing its collective needs, and equitably investing public resources. We are grateful for the Mass Culture Council and the funds it has provided us to be able to bring these clubs to our students this year.

Grade 6 Gillette Field Trip
Grade 6 students went on a field trip to Gillette Stadium on November 20th, 21st, and 22nd. During the field trip, students worked on a STEM module called, "Let's Have a Ball!" During this module, students were presented with a sports-related technological problem. They were told that a game manufacturer needs help in choosing the correct sports ball for its new game. Students were given specific criteria regarding the ball's performance requirements. They were asked to test several different types of sports balls and make recommendations based on the outcome of each test. The module was a student centered hands-on learning experience that encouraged essential skills such as collaboration and teamwork. Students were also able to visit the Patriots Hall of Fame Museum, enter the football stadium, and walk on the football field during this trip.
Thank you to the OMS PTSO for funding this field trip!! Thank you to Mr. Donovan and the Grade 6 teachers for planning this field trip!
OMG Moments
This school year, we are recognizing students who make a positive impact in our school community with OMG (Oh My Goodness) Moments. OMS staff share OMG moments with administration to highlight special, positive moments that occur in our school community. If administration receives a positive shout-out about our OMS students from community members, we recognize them with an OMG Moment.
When we receive an OMG Moment, an administrator meets with the student to recognize them for their positive impact. We also share a positive phone call home to share the good news and they get a special shout-out in the OMS Community Newsletter.
In October and November, Deans of Students, Mr. Bernstein and Ms. Montembault, met with students to emphasize the positive impact they are having on our school community. These OMG moments include helping their peers during lunch, sitting with a student who sits alone, and positively participating in class by demonstrating Respect, Readiness, and Resposibility.
Great job to Din (DJ) Jenkins, Keniel Mercado Cruz (not pictured), Jayson Frierson, Vansh Panchal, and Cadence Murphy for being upstanders in our school community!
After School Activity Reminders
Information about after school activities can be found on the OMS website under the "After School Tab." Clubs and activity information is updated throughout the year so students and parents/guardians can check here for information. Students can also get information by listening to the morning announcements and checking their OMS Students Google Classroom.
Late Bus Reminders
As a reminder, the late bus is free and accessible to any OMS or SHS student who participates in an after school activity or stays after school with a teacher. Students can receive a late bus pass from their activity's advisor/coach or the teacher they work with after school. The late bus departs OMS at 3:35-3:40pm.
There are three late buses this school year. Please keep in mind, the late bus has central stops so these will be different than the regular bus stops. Below are the routes and stops for the three late buses.
November 27th Spirit Day!
