Tipps STEAM Bits & Bytes
Weeks of October 3 -14, 2022
From the Assistant Principal
Hello, Jr. Jag Families! It's hard to believe we're already a week into the second grading period! Report cards are viewable via Skyward for students in 3rd & 4th grade, so be sure to check those out. PK-2nd grade will receive their first report cards at the end of the 2nd grading period.
Be sure to check your kids' take-home folders every night. There's likely to be important information in there, especially now that we've wrapped up beginning-of-year assessments.
One more reminder - you should be having conferences with your teacher this week, if you haven't already. Please email your child's teacher to set one up.
Thank you so much for your support. Our year is already off to a great start!
Tipps Top Spot
This year, we are starting a new way to recognize the amazing people doing amazing things at Tipps! The Tipps Top Spot Award (aka "The Jazzy") will be awarded every two weeks to a staff member who has gone over and above to make life at Tipps better for students or teachers or both. Think of it as a positive referral for the staff.
Our inaugural Top Spot award winner is none other than Brittany Giese! Mrs. Giese is our ESL Specialist, but she does so much more for our campus. From testing to Sunshine to whatever else she takes care of, she makes sure what needs to be done is done. If she sees something, she takes care of it. We are blessed to have Mrs. Giese as part of our family!
Library News
Our library is excited to welcome you back to the 22-23 school year. We encourage you to partner with us to continue to create a community of readers. If at any time you would like to set parameters on books your child can check out or if you have any questions about our library please email our librarian Mrs. Gansert at TheaGansert@misdmail.org. We look forward to reading our way through 22-23!
Do You Want to Be More Involved?
Please consider joining our Tipps Site Based Decision Making Committee. This group of staff, parents, and community members meets 4 times a year to discuss Tipps data, needs, ideas for the school, etc. If you are interested in joining this committee, please fill out this form.
We're also calling all dads, granddads, uncles, etc. to come help open doors for our Jr. Jags as they arrive. You must have an updated MISD background check to do so. Click here to sign up.

MISD Technology
For New to District Students – To request a new device or to report a damaged device, parents need to Enter A Help Ticket from the Technology Department’s page on the district site. It’s very important that the parent does this because it requires a signature stating that you have read/acknowledged the Student Device Management Handbook. To request a new charger or case, fill out a request here. For information about insurance for your student's device, please review the PDF below.
Make plans to join us at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts on October 22, 10am - 2pm!
This year is fantasy/fairy themed, so put on your best costumes and come out to be part of all the fun! There will be performances, a fairy village, face painting, a live unicorn for photos, a petting zoo, our pumpkin-eating dragon, armadillo races, food trucks, and more!
Join PTA!
We need YOU! Please join our PTA. We are starting fresh this year with a new board, and it's going to be a great partnership. PTA only functions well when we have active members. Join PTA is up and running again.

Arrival/Dismissal
Arrival Reminders: Pull up as close as you can to the crosswalk and the car in front of you so we utilize our space more efficiently. Parents, please remain in your cars. As you pull around the drive, have students get their backpacks ready to go, so they're ready to hop out when you get to the side. Say your "see you later, and hugs and kisses" as you come around the drive. You getting out of the car and doing these things holds up traffic behind you. If you feel you absolutely must get out of your car to get your child out, then please pull to that side parking lot and then walk your child to the crosswalk. Please be courteous by following our procedures.
Dismissal Update: To help speed up the process, we are trying something new. You can help by pulling up as close as possible to the crosswalk and car in front of you. As you have noticed, all students will load their cars as they walk up the middle black line. There are 6 staff members on the line to help students load. If they must load from the opposite side, our staff will escort them. Please be patient with us and our students as they get acclimated to this. Also, please follow our procedures. It is imperative you stay in the lane you are in when Coach King puts your number in. It could change the order in which your child comes out and causes a back up when they aren't there...but it's because you switched lanes. There is no need to switch lanes. It's not a courteous practice to our other parents, and it could affect our student line-ups. We understand waiting in a car to get your child may not be the most fun activity, however, that does not give anyone the right to try to cheat the system by arriving at 2:00 to enter the drive early driving the wrong way, to cut each other off as you drive around, parking your car in the lots and getting down to get your "walker," etc. These are unsafe practices. Please, please be courteous to our staff and other parents. We are doing our best to get everyone home safely in an organized fashion and as quickly as possible.
Front Walkers: Thank you for not crowding our sidewalks and waiting in the grassy areas! This really helps our staff to ensure your child remains safe.
We thank you all so very much for helping us keep our Jr. Jags and staff safe.
