Principal Office Updates
Greetings from Mrs. Hummel
Dear Albright Families,
With the arrival of warmer weather and longer days, there’s a noticeable sense of renewed energy throughout our building. Students and staff alike seem to be embracing this seasonal shift, and it’s a wonderful time of year to see learning and engagement in full swing. Over the next two weeks, our students will also be participating in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). We encourage students to approach the assessment with confidence, do their best, and take pride in the growth they’ve shown this year. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a positive mindset can go a long way! We are proud of the hard work our students have put in all year and look forward to seeing them continue to shine as we head into this busy and exciting stretch of the school year.
Drop-Off Procedures Reminder
Please don't forget that we now drop off students along Myrtle. This change was made to increase safety for all and improve traffic flow after we noticed a handful of dangerous incidents involving cars on Harrison. I understand that you may sometimes get stuck behind a bus for a couple of minutes while it unloads students, but the unloading process is typically pretty quick. Please see the image for detailed drop-off instructions.
IAR testing starts this week!
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We appreciate your investment in your child’s education and want to share information about state- and federally required assessments. Federal law requires the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to administer certain assessments to all students who attend Illinois public schools. According to federal law, students must take an achievement exam in reading/language arts and mathematics each year from third through eighth grade. In Illinois, students take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR).
Testing will begin the week of March 17 and conclude no later than March 27. If a child misses a day of testing, we have makeup options and will test them when they return to school. Depending on the test, students will spend 60-90 minutes per day testing.
While IAR testing is important, please remember it is one measure of your child’s current academic performance in reading/language arts and mathematics. In District 48, we look to instill a variety of skills, attributes, and dispositions that the IAR does not measure.
We encourage students to do their best on all assessments. Federal and state law do not authorize districts or schools to excuse students from testing. ISBE does not provide guidance on “opting out” because such an option would violate the law. School districts must administer assessments to at least 95% of students and to at least 95% of each student demographic group, or face lower public school recognition status. This leads to increased state oversight and may put districts’ state and federal funds at risk.
We encourage students to complete as much of each assessment as they can. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ISBE Assessment Department at 866-317-6034 or visit the ISBE Assessment webpage.
We thank you for your dedication to supporting and serving all Illinois students.
5 Essentials Survey
We want to hear from you! Each year, our staff, parents, and students take the 5Essentials Survey to show us how we are doing. This feedback is extremely helpful for us to make improvements as a school. Please take the 5 Essentials Survey no later than March 13th. You should take this survey for each school you have students attending, and not just once for the district.http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/

New Main Entrance for Parents and Late Arrivals
Albright Middle School has a new main entrance! Please note that Door One on the north side of Villa Ave is no longer in use for parent drop-offs or late student arrivals. All parents and students arriving after the start of the school day should now use the new main entrance located on the south side of Villa Ave, as shown in the photo. This update helps improve security and streamline our entry procedures. Thank you for your cooperation!
⏰ Punctuality Matters! The 7:43 AM Bell
We want all of our students to start their day ready for success! A crucial part of that readiness is simply being on time.
Please remember that our arrival window is from 7:35 AM to 7:43 AM. If a student arrives at the front office after 7:43 AM, they are officially marked as tardy.
Consistent punctuality helps students:
- Catch the Day’s Key Information: The first minutes of class are essential for daily instructions and lesson overviews.
- Build Lifelong Habits: Being on time is a critical skill needed for high school, future jobs, and life responsibilities.
- Avoid Disruptions: Arriving on time ensures the classroom environment remains focused and free from interruptions.
Please help us reinforce the importance of a smooth morning routine at home. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students are in their classrooms and ready to learn by 7:45 AM sharp!

SPORTS PHYSICALS
Sports physicals are required for any students who would like to participate in school-sponsored sport activities. They are only good for one calendar year. If you are not sure if you child needs a new one please reach out to the school nurse Mrs. Simmons.
Attending Home Games
Due to our ongoing construction, we are hosting our basketball "home" games off-site this year at St. Alexander's Parish.
The church has been kind enough to rent out its gymnasium space so that we could have a place to call home while our new gymnasium is being built. Please be aware that the seating is more limited at this location. There is one small bank of bleachers, and we will be putting out folding chairs, but it's still not very large.
For athletes who will be competing at St. A's, we have arranged for bus transportation to the facility after school. Transportation home from games and practices will be the responsibility of the student athlete and their family. Coaches will send home more detailed information on transportation and expectations.
Students planning to attend the game as spectators will need to find their own transportation to and from the game and must remain in the gym at all times. There will be a staff member from AMS present to supervise students who wish to come cheer on their classmates. If a student spectator chooses to leave the gym, then they must leave the church campus and will not be allowed re-entry.
St. Alexander's Parish is located at 300 S. Cornell Ave, Villa Park.

March Lunch Menu
New at AMS: A la carte menu items
Beginning late next week, we will offer a la carte snack items for purchase through the lunch lines. The items sold will include baked chips ($1.50), chocolate chip cookies ($1.25), and sparkling water ($2.00). There are a few rules around how much and when students can purchase the items:
- Students with a negative lunch balance will not be allowed to purchase these items
- Students may only purchase one of each type of item per day (i.e. only one bag of chips, one cookie, and one drink)
- If a student is only purchasing a snack item, and not a hot lunch, that student must wait until students getting their hot lunch have been served, then they can enter the lunch line to purchase their snack (we want to prioritize students getting their meals)
- The prices listed above will be consistent for everyone, regardless of whether the student receives free/reduced lunch prices
- Students must use money loaded on to their account for the snack items; we do not accept cash
