More than 3,000 students at 33 elementary schools participated in Together in Remembrance, a hands‑on activity that celebrated Memorial Day while fostering collaboration and reflection. Students constructed wood flags from kits donated by the veteran‑owned company Flags of Valor. Veterans attended to support the activity, and older students partnered with younger students to help them build their flags. This annual event, coordinated by the Division of Family and Community Engagement, strengthens connections across schools and honors those who have served.

LCPS Partners with GMU to Help Lower Barriers to Higher Education LCPS Partners with GMU to Help Lower Barriers to Higher Education

LCPS seniors at Dominion, Park View and Potomac Falls High Schools had an incredible opportunity this year through the George Mason Direct Admission Program. Students who earned a 3.25 GPA or higher by the end of junior year were eligible to participate in the program, which streamlined the path to college and boosted confidence as students planned their futures.

Across the three schools, more than 550 students were eligible and about 350 completed the direct admission application. The number of students from the three schools planning to attend GMU in the fall increased by 35% from the previous year, thanks in part to the program's success.

For the Class of 2027, the program will expand to all LCPS seniors with a 3.25 GPA or higher. Families can expect more details soon and again in August.

This partnership reflects LCPS’ commitment to removing barriers to higher education and expanding access to post‑secondary opportunities. Learn more about the GMU Direct Admission program.

Planning for Elementary School Attendance Boundary Review in Eastern Loudoun Planning for Elementary School Attendance Boundary Review in Eastern Loudoun

At the May 26 School Board meeting, the School Board adopted a meeting schedule to facilitate the review of Eastern Loudoun elementary school attendance zones. The current boundaries of Algonkian, Countryside, Forest Grove, Guilford, Horizon, Lowes Island, Meadowland, Potowmack, Rolling Ridge, Sterling, Sugarland and Sully elementary schools will be reviewed in the attendance zone process. Notifying a specific school community does not indicate that the attendance zone currently serving the community will change, only that school attendance zone adjustments may be reviewed, proposed and/or adopted. Additional information on the boundary process will be shared with the school communities over the coming months. Any adopted elementary school attendance zone changes will take effect with the start of the 2027/28 school year.

Recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day Recognizing National Gun Violence Awareness Day

June 5 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day. At its May 26 meeting, the Loudoun County School Board formally recognized this observance. National Gun Violence Awareness Day honors and remembers all victims and survivors of gun violence and underscores the need for our country to do more to end this public health crisis. Virginia law prohibits leaving a loaded, unsecured firearm in a manner that endangers a child under 14. In addition, evidence shows that securely storing firearms is one of the most effective ways to prevent injuries and reduce access by children and teens. As partners in keeping students safe, LCPS encourages families to review firearm storage practices and ensure that any firearms in the home are secured in accordance with state law and safety best practices. Read more about secure gun storage.

LCPS will be providing free meals this summer for students ages 18 and younger at several locations throughout Loudoun County. LCPS provides this free service to our families through participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Summer Food Service Program. The Summer Food Service Program provides funding for free meals to children during the summer months, when schools are closed, to ensure children retain access to nutritious meals when school is not in session.

Like all federally funded programs, there are certain requirements LCPS must follow, including:

  • All meals must be consumed at the school or site location.

  • Food cannot be taken off-site.

  • Meals cannot be picked up by a parent or guardian to bring home.

Please see the list of dates and locations for the Summer Meal distribution.

MTSS Intervention Plans Available in ParentVUE MTSS Intervention Plans Available in ParentVUE

As part of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), students may receive intervention if it is determined that additional support, beyond core instruction, is needed. Intervention can be provided in the areas of literacy, math, behavior and mental health for LCPS students. If your child received an MTSS intervention plan during the 2025/26 school year, the plan is available in ParentVUE by clicking on “MTSS” on the left of your ParentVUE screen until June 30, 2026. Should you want to maintain a copy for your records, it is recommended that you save and/or print the plan prior to this date. MTSS intervention plans should not be confused with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students who are identified as eligible for special education services.
