SBMHS: Updates & Reminders
This has been another fantastic week at Scott's Branch Middle High School. I'd like to extend my gratitude to all our parents and students for your continued support and patience during these first three weeks of school.
Our first common assessments and MAP testing will be coming up soon. Parents we kindly ask that you please remind students to focus and pay attention in their classes so that they will be prepared for these upcoming assessments. Reminders for testing dates will be posted to our school's live feed and Facebook pages.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the Title I parent meeting Thursday evening. I am excited about the strong partnership between our school and families and look forward to seeing even more parents at our upcoming meetings. Thank you again for your continued support!
I would also like to extend my congratulations to all our newly inducted Student Government Representatives. I know that each of you will represent Scott's Branch Middle High School well!
Rise up, Eagle Nation, and meet the expectation!

SBMHS : Focused on Teaching & Learning
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Math
This week in Ms. Kimari's 6th grade Math class, students engaged in solving multi-step problems with fractions and decimals. Instruction focused on ways to solve multi-step problems with fractions and decimals. Students worked with partners to practice solving multi-step problems with fractions and decimals. We look forward to observing students' continued progress with solving multi-step problems and how they make connections with other math skills.
High School: Spanish I
This week in Ms. Russell’s Spanish I class, students engaged in learning and practicing foundational conversational phrases. Instruction emphasized accurate pronunciation and comprehension of expressions such as “hello,” “how are you?,” “how are you doing today?,” and “how are you feeling?” Students participated in peer-to-peer practice sessions to strengthen both verbal and reading fluency. We look forward to observing their continued progress in developing bilingual communication skills.
Tech Tidbits
Charging Tips / Updates
We want to extend our thanks for all our students and parents for their continued patience and support as we are working to complete device deployment. All middle school students have been issued devices and chargers and we are in the process of issuing devices to high school students.
Students have or will be issued a device charger to use for the 2025-26 school year. Each student's charger has a unique number assigned just to them. Students need to make sure that the label stays on their charger and that they remember the number on their charger.
It is important to bring your device fully charged to school each day. We ask that students please check that their device is fully charged & packed in your bag each night before going to bed. This will ensure that you are prepared for your classes each day. Please be mindful that brightness, having lots of tabs open will use up the device's charge more quickly.
SBMHS Library : Where Reading is "LIT"!
Welcome Back Readers!
I am thrilled to serve as the library media specialist at Scott's Branch Middle High School again this year! I look forward to a wonderful year full of working with teachers to help our students be life-long readers, critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information!
The library's program and resources are designed to support classroom instruction, curriculum and recreational needs. Students can visit the library with a pass from their teacher to check-out books. Students are expected to take care of the library materials they check out. Library materials are due two weeks after the day of check-out and students are asked to please return books on time. Library reminder notices will be sent home each semester if books are not returned on time.
This week middle and high school students have visiting the library to check out books. I can't wait to discuss what these students thought of their selections. Please remember to return any books that were checked out last school year. This makes it possible for all our students to have the opportunity to read and enjoy these titles, too. I will be sending home bright yellow reminder notices with students who still have books to return.
Last school year many of our reading challenges / incentives were very popular with our student body and I am so excited to get these started for the 2025-26 school year. Students please be on the look out for our "Library News" to be posted outside the library door as well as updates posted to our weekly newsletters. I'm looking forward to an outstanding school year full of reading and learning!

SEL Discussion: Self-Control
This week, our middle school students kicked off their first Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) discussion on Self-Control. Students reflected on the meaning of self-control, shared how they currently practice or plan to practice it, and discussed real-life examples of times when they successfully demonstrated self-control. Through writing prompts and group discussion, students explored how managing their emotions, words, and actions can positively impact their choices and relationships both inside and outside of school.
