SPASH Newsletter
September 2026
Dear SPASH Students and SPASH Families:
Welcome to the 2026 - 2027 school year! I hope that this September Newsletter finds you doing well and feeling good. Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we’re grateful to have you as part of the SPASH school community.
The start of a new school year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and connect – both in and out of the classroom. Our first week of school started with a great Sophomore and New Student Orientation day on Monday and we eagerly welcomed all of our students to the building Tuesday morning. It is great to have students back in the building again and I look forward to helping our students navigate their first weeks back at school and establish a routine.
As we start the month of September please be reminded of a few important events and dates:
ID and School Picture Retake Day – Tuesday, September 8th
SPASH Back to School Night – Tuesday, September 8th (6:00 PM)
Professional Development Day – Friday, September 25th (no school)
We’ll send and post some brief reminders for each of these events as they arrive. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions and we’ll work to help.
Homecoming 2026 will be the week of October 5-10 so watch for more information about that with our October 1st newsletter.
Thank you for your support and engagement as we get the school year rolling!
Have a great day,
Jon R. Vollendorf, Ed.D.
Principal
Student Pictures and SPASH ID's
Visual Image Photographers (VIP) will be at SPASH on Tuesday, September 8th, in the auditorium from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. If you were unable to attend registration in August, this is your opportunity to get your picture taken to obtain a SPASH ID.
If you wish to place an order for school pictures, please click on the button below. Proofs will be emailed to the parent's email. Parents have seven days from the photo day to place an order. If you have any questions, please email support@vipis.com or call customer service 262-375-4457.
Back to School Night
Back to School Night at SPASH is Tuesday, September 8th at 6:00 PM. You are invited to come back to school to walk your student's schedule, meet teachers, and learn about class content and expectations. Please bring or access a copy of your student's schedule and stop in!
More details and specifics about the evening are posted on the link below -- we hope to see you there!
Please Remind Your Student to Wear Their ID
Starting this year, we are asking all students to visibly wear their IDs as part of our increased efforts around school safety and security. IDs will be used to scan students in and out of the building during release hours efficiently, keeping us better informed of their location during the school day. Student IDs will also be scanned during lunch, allowing the line to move more quickly, in turn giving students more time to enjoy their lunch. Students were provided with clips for their IDs earlier this week and lanyards will be available for them soon.
Junior Senior Release Reminders
Junior/Senior Release is for students who exhibit a high level of maturity and personal responsibility. It allows them to leave during their lunch or unscheduled period. Students will respect the rights of others, particularly in the library, hallways, commons, etc. Parking lots are off-limits unless a student is arriving on campus or leaving campus. Failure to meet expectations will result in the student losing this privilege. Listed below are the criteria and rules pertaining to release time.
Parental and administrative approvals are required.
Students must have no failures or incompletes in the prior grading period.
Students must have at least a 90% attendance rate and not have more than 5 tardies during the previous quarter.
Students must carry their student ID card and follow all check-in and check-out procedures.
Students who have earned the release privilege and choose not to leave campus are permitted on campus but only in supervised areas. Students may be in the lower commons, library, core lab, or working under the supervision of a teacher. Released students may not be in the halls during class periods.
Students will lose their release privilege if they are transporting students on/off campus who do not have Junior/Senior Release.
Students are expected to use designated entrances and scan in/out using their SPASH ID upon exiting and entering the school.
Students must have a positive behavioral record with no suspensions in the previous or current semester.
Students must be responsible and respectful at all times. Failure to maintain these criteria or follow school rules and expectations will result in the loss of this release privilege.
SPASH Daily Schedule Reminder
SPASH utilizes a hybrid block weekly schedule. A “hybrid block schedule” is a weekly schedule that contains some traditional seven-period days along with days that contain longer “block” class periods for extended learning and activities. Block days also contain dedicated time for independent student personal learning (PLT), Advisory, and Panther Clubs and Activities.
Below please find a link to the SPASH hybrid block schedule that we use as well as descriptions of the different elements of the schedule. The first week of the hybrid block schedule will be September 14 - 18 as we’ll run our regular 7 period schedule each day of the first two weeks of school.
Please watch your email for further updates and more information regarding our schedule, including the specific weeks of the school year during which we will not be running block days (i.e. first week of the semester, ACT testing, short holiday weeks).
Student Absences - Attendance Office
Parents/guardians, please remember to contact SPASH when your student is absent from school. You have three options to report an absence.
- Enter your child's absence through Skyward Family Access: Please read the instructions on how to report your absence online.
- Call the attendance office at 715-345-5402: Due to the volume of calls received in the morning, you may get an answering machine. Please leave a message stating your name, your student's name, grade, and reason for the absence.
- Email the attendance office at SPASH-Attendance@pointschools.net.
Every School Day Counts! As we start another school year, please know that we appreciate your help and support encouraging your student to maintain excellent attendance. Regular school attendance plays an important role in helping students be successful at school and after graduation. When students attend school consistently, they have more opportunities to learn, participate in classroom activities, build relationships with teachers and classmates, and stay connected to their school community. Wisconsin law also recognizes the importance of regular attendance. Under Wis. Stat. § 118.15, school attendance is required for all children through the age of 18, and Wis. Stat. § 118.16 addresses truancy and defines a student as a “habitual truant” when the student is absent without an acceptable excuse for all or part of five or more school days during a semester. It is also important to understand that chronic absenteeism is different from truancy. A student can miss a significant amount of school due to excused or unexcused absences, and frequent absences can make it difficult to keep up with learning and stay connected to school. We recognize that families may face challenges that sometimes make getting to school difficult, and we encourage parents to work collaboratively with us as early as possible to understand those challenges and find ways to support regular attendance. Every school day matters, and consistent attendance gives students the best opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery
What is SPASH SLR?
SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery is a Saturday morning detention session assigned by one of the Assistant Principals or Dean of Students for reasons that may include but are not limited to truancy, misconduct, misuse of PLT, or failure to follow other school rules. Students assigned to SPASH SLR will report to the SPASH LMC for the assigned time on a selected Saturday morning and engage in supervised quiet study and work completion.
Why Are We Doing This?
Student attendance and prompt work completion are primary indicators of not only academic performance but also graduation eligibility and future employment capacity.
As we continue to work with our students to improve their academic growth, we want to emphasize the importance of being present as well as engaging and completing coursework. While we have an outstanding record of student achievement, we can improve our overall attendance percentage as well as punctual work submission.
SPASH SLR offers students an opportunity to make-up missed classroom work time as well as to complete missing or incomplete work. Students who do not complete their assigned SLR will be referred for progressive discipline which could include a truancy referral as well as in-school suspension.
When and Where Will it Happen?
SPASH Saturday Learning Recovery will be in the SPASH LMC from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on select Saturdays throughout the year and supervised by a SPASH faculty or staff member. Students will work with the supervisor to set and work towards a goal for the session. Cell phones are not permitted during SLR and any Chromebook use will be supervised via Securly.
Students and parents of students assigned to SLR will be notified via the SPASH North Office.
Online Registration
Parents, if you have not already completed the online registration through Skyward Family Access we ask that the primary family sign in to complete this process. This includes verifying student information, signing important documents (student handbook, code of conduct, participation agreement), completing the lunch release form, jr/sr release form, completing health forms, and managing food service and student fees. View full instructions.
Updating Your Family Address
Please be sure that the school district has the correct address on file for your student/family. If you need to update your family address, please provide the district with a copy or a picture of a piece of mail with your name and current address. This information can be emailed to enrollments@pointschools.net or dropped off to your school's main office.
Student Parking
SPASH drivers - You'll need to purchase a 2026-2027 parking permit to park in the student lot! The permit hangs on the car's rearview mirror. You must have a valid driver's license to purchase your permit.
To get your pass, turn in your completed parking form and bring your driver's license and the $50 payment to the SPASH main office. If you pay online, remember to hand in your completed form and bring your driver's license to the main office to obtain your permit.
