In celebration of Bus Driver Appreciation Day!

THANK YOU for your dedication in ensuring

the safe transportation of our students.

Every day our bus operators safely steer 1000s of students to and from school. School bus drivers are tasked with one of the most important responsibilities in education - safely transporting our children to and from school.

School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is a well-deserved salute in the direction of all those men and women who dedicate their lives to helping children get to and from school safely every day, while staying patient, helpful and positive all throughout.

Let's thank them for going the distance and celebrate their commitment to student learning. Text or call your operator on Monday May 4th to thank them for what they do!

Kindergarten is the beginning of a beautiful partnership between home and school and the team at OLA is looking forward to beginning to build this bridge together with next year’s families at our upcoming Kindergarten Information Evening. This evening will be held via a zoom meeting link on May 13th at 6:30 p.m. The link is found above as well as on our school facebook and twitter accounts. The evening will be a great chance to meet our Early Learning Team, learn about our kindergarten program, and have any of your questions answered. We hope to see you there!

We are so excited that children are really enjoying playing 4 Squares outside....in fact they are enjoying it so much, we are in need of more 4 Squares painted on the tarmac.

OLA has the paint - if you are interested in helping to spend some time outside to paint more 4 Square game stations, please call us at 780-998-3716.

Children LOVE to draw and tap into their creative juices. It's also very calming! Children adore bringing colour to the blank canvases of the pavement and OLA's outdoor classroom chalk boards.

We are always on the hunt for sidewalk chalk. If you have any...we will put it to good use!!

Please remember to check you email. You have received a letter from Mme Gravelle regarding Class Allocation Requests. These requests are to be submitted by email, pamgr@eics.ab.ca, by May 5, 2021.

The city recently ran a contest where local kids could submit possible names for the snow plows. After receiving over 125 entries and then allowing the community to pick from the top 10, the city has announced the new names — Snowsquatch, Scoops, T-Rexaplow (T-Plow) and Plowdoh.

Mason submitted T-Rexaplow! Congratulation!

Each morning, thank you for:

• taking the time to complete the Alberta Health Service Daily Checklist
• checking your child's backpack for a water bottle. There are refill stations at the school. The water fountains remain off to follow COVID Protocols.
• placing extra masks in your child's backpack in case they forget one, it falls on the ground or it breaks. Masks are also needed in music class.

This week’s Grade 3 and 4 were introduced to Instrument Families! It allowed the students to play instruments and to discover the different ways musical instruments make sound.

Their Challenge:

They had to figure out how each group of instruments created music: shake, scrape, strike, strum, blow, bow and pluck.

Although the students don’t get to hear the wind instruments played indoors during covid times, they were interested in seeing what it was like to hold them.

Field trip: to date all field trips involving bussing are cancelled. Virtual field trips and walking trips may still occur. Once these have been finalized we will share the field trip fee for payment
