Hello Montessori families!

In early December, students will participate in a reading and math screener. Our JK-5th grade students will take the aimswebPlus reading assessment. The JK and SK students will complete the Early Numeracy screener, while 1st-8th graders will take the STAR Math assessment. 6th-8th grade will also take the STAR Reading assessment.These screeners are designed to quickly assess your child's reading and math skills. The insights gained will help your child's teacher understand their abilities and tailor future lessons accordingly. You can click on the link to find additional information about aimsweb. Please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast to help them do their best on their test!

The cold weather season is upon us. As a district, we will be using the National Health Center’s rating scale of safe time outdoors. The “magic” number for keeping children indoors is -5 degrees, with the wind chill and temperature combination.

Children love to play outside in the snow. As long as the weather permits, we take them out for recess. All students are expected to be outside unless there is a medical reason prohibiting them from doing so.
Please be sure to send your child in boots, snow pants, a warm jacket, a hat, and gloves/mittens to be able to participate in snow activities. If students do not have appropriate snow attire, they will still play outside, but they will be instructed to stay on the blacktop surfaces only.

Don’t forget to label items with your child’s name!

Feel free to join us in an optional spirit week the last school week of December. This is an all-school optional spirit week.

We’ve teamed up with Papa John’s (11504 W North Ave.) for our December restaurant fundraiser to correspond with the winter general music concert! Order dinner before the concert starts, and swing by to pick it up on your way home. Skate Club is Back!

Back by popular demand, Skate Club will be returning this year! Join us in December, January, and February for some fun on wheels:

Thursdays after school until 4:00 p.m.
Fridays before school from 7:30–8:00 a.m.

We’ll be skating in the gym, and to help protect our beautiful new gym floor, skates must be in new condition and used only indoors. A helmet is required for all skaters.

No Skate Club Dates:

December 18–19 (Music Concert setup)
January 29–30 (Book Fair setup)

Skate Club kicks off on Thursday, December 4.

Fresh Hot Popcorn every Tuesday

We will once again have the opportunity to order popcorn on Tuesdays. The price is $.75 per bag. Students order it on Tuesday morning and the Next Steps crew make the popcorn and deliver it same day. So yummy!

December Choice Board

In a season so often dominated by sameness—snowflake cutouts, red-and-green décor, familiar songs—the Montessori classroom invites us to pause and ask a deeper question: who and what is being seen? Inclusion, in its truest sense, means making the season visible, equitable, and belonging-oriented for every child and family. When we honor diverse traditions, languages, and ways of celebrating (or not celebrating), we expand the child’s understanding of community and justice. The choices we make about what to celebrate, how to involve families, and how to center every identity can reinforce—or undermine—a culture of belonging.

Please take a moment to review this document explaining how to enter attendance into Infinite Campus. This is used for appts, sick, vac, etc. You can still call the attendance line but the new procedure is what the district would like you to use.
