Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe we’re already welcoming November! We are entering a month centered on gratitude and giving thanks. This time of year is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on those ideals and think about the small things that bring us joy each day.

We are already almost one quarter through this year and I want to thank our students, staff, and families for making these first few months so wonderful. I am truly grateful to be part of this school community, and I look forward to all that the coming months will bring. Wishing everyone a wonderful November filled with kindness, connection, and plenty of reasons to be thankful!

Assembly with The Red Hawk Singers and Dancers Assembly with The Red Hawk Singers and Dancers

Chee and David are members of the Red Hawk Singers and Dancers which provide a variety of formats to share the ways of the Wampanoag people. Each presentation is an educational program that includes song, dance and teachings about the virtues of humility, respect, identity and self-care.

The Red Hawk Singers and Dancers’ mission statement reads: “We want the world to hear our trials and tribulations. To be indigenous is to be one with Mother Earth; to give before we take. We believe one of our greatest virtues is humility, the way of listening before we speak and always remembering that knowledge is our power. Vast knowledge of our history and culture amazes and inspires. Our ways of cleansing the Mind, Body, and Soul are inspirational.

Thank you to Nicole Densmore for organizing this experience for our students!

Underpass Art Revitalized!

The Visual Arts team at Kearsarge would like to repaint the murals beneath I89 off exit 10. You have probably noticed the murals are pretty faded and chipped. Our solution is to open up design entries to ALL Kearsarge students Pre-K through 12th grade and have representation from our seven towns. The theme is "traditions in our community". What traditions and community events are unique and special to each of our towns.

I will be handing out flyers in art class and also asking administration/PTO to post information, but I was wondering if you might be able to help spread the word as well. Entries are due back to me by October 31st and can be on a horizontal piece of printer paper (8.5x11). Just an fyi, elementary students are encouraged to submit designs, but the HS students will be painting their designs under I89.

The amazing artists at KRES-NL have finished creating their art projects for Square 1 Art in art class. I am so proud of all their hard work and creativity!

For those of you who are new to Square 1 Art, it is a unique fundraiser that gives families the opportunity to purchase their student’s work of art on a variety of products, such as mugs, pillowcases and keychains. Square 1 Art is also a fundraiser for KRES-NL PTO! Not only are you supporting your young artist, but also your school community.

Health News Health News

Dear KRES-NL Families,

We are reaching out to let you know that we have seen a noticeable increase in reported cases of head lice at KRES-NL. We are sharing this information as a precaution so that families can be proactive in checking their children and helping limit further spread.

We encourage all families to check their children's hair and scalp over the next several days, paying particular attention to the areas behind the ears and along the nape of the neck. If you discover head lice, please contact your child's healthcare provider or pharmacist for guidance on appropriate treatment and follow the recommended treatment instructions.

A few important reminders:

  • Head lice are common among school-aged children and are not a reflection of personal hygiene.

  • Head lice spread primarily through direct head-to-head contact.

  • Please remind children to avoid head-to-head contact during play and to avoid sharing items such as hats, brushes, and hair accessories.

  • Please note that school staff do not routinely screen students for head lice. We encourage families to conduct regular checks at home, particularly when cases are increasing in the school community.
  • Students who have head lice may remain in school and will not be excluded from attendance solely because of head lice. We encourage families to address identified cases promptly and follow appropriate treatment recommendations.

Thank you for your attention and partnership in supporting the health and well-being of our school community. We appreciate your help in addressing this concern in a timely and supportive manner.

District Facilities Decision Information District Facilities Decision Information

Public information is posted on the district page here.

On September 3, 2026 the School Board adopted a two school elementary configuration as the District's long term operating goal, and directed the Superintendent to prepare transition plans for Sutton Central Elementary School and Simonds Elementary School. Preparation is not closure. The motions state plainly that final closure authorization requires a separate, separately noticed Board vote, and that the decision to close a school is ultimately made by voters, not by the Board alone.

On October 22 the Board voted 5–1 by roll call to revise its long-term consolidation planning goal to a three-school elementary configuration, keeping Simonds open and preparing for Sutton's potential planned closure in 2028 through the Articles of Agreement voting process. A separate motion to cease planning for Simonds' closure through that process in 2028 carried 6–0.

Neither vote changed the Superintendent's direction to prepare for emergency closure of either Sutton or Simonds under HB 1374. The planned 2028 pathway is separate from any affirmative HB 1374 petition vote. The Board also discussed warrant articles and is still awaiting information from Bond Counsel.

PTO Parent Survey: We Want To Hear from You

Dear Kearsarge New London Elementary School Families,

The PTO exists to support our students, teachers, and school community by creating opportunities, enriching our children's educational experiences, and helping make our school an even better place to learn and grow. We are proud of what our school community has accomplished, but we need to be honest about where we are today.

PTO participation and volunteerism have declined, and we are struggling to maintain the level of support and programming we want to provide for our students and teachers. Our events, activities, fundraising efforts, and teacher support initiatives depend on family involvement. With fewer parents participating and volunteering, it is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain these efforts. Without additional support, we may need to reduce or scale back some of the opportunities and programs we have historically offered our school community.

Before making decisions about the future of our PTO, we want to better understand why participation has declined and what we can do differently. We recognize that every family has different schedules, responsibilities, priorities, and capacities to contribute. We want to understand what makes participation difficult, what opportunities would be more accessible, how we can improve communication, and whether there are concerns or barriers that we may not fully understand. We also want to hear your ideas for how the PTO can better serve our families, students, and teachers.

This is not simply a request for more volunteers. It is an opportunity to help shape the future of our PTO. Whether you have been actively involved for years, have volunteered occasionally, or have never participated, your perspective matters.

You do not need to commit to volunteering or joining the PTO to complete this anonymous survey. We want honest feedback from all families, including those who may feel disconnected or unsure how to get involved. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link or QR code below. Your feedback will help us identify what is working, what needs to change, and how we can build a more welcoming, sustainable, and inclusive PTO that reflects the needs of our school community.

Our goal is to continue providing meaningful opportunities and support for our students and teachers, but we cannot do it alone. A strong school community requires shared effort, fresh perspectives, and a willingness to work together. We hope this survey will be the first step toward understanding how we can move forward together.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and for all the ways you support our children and our school.

With appreciation,

Kearsarge New London Elementary School PTO
