It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!

Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!

We hope you had a wonderful and restful spring break! As we return for the final stretch of the school year, we are excited for all the learning, growth, and memorable experiences that await our students.

We will be encouraging our students to Make It Count by staying engaged, putting forth their best effort, and finishing the year strong. We have STAAR testing coming up in the month of April and will be focused on ensuring that students are prepared to shine on their exams. The testing schedule is below so that you can be aware of what is coming. We know that our students are capable of doing great things and will show the rest of the world how hard they have worked in academics this year by doing their best on the STAAR tests!

There are also many other exciting events ahead, including field trips, academic awards/honor roll ceremonies, Hero celebrations, end of year parties for 6th/7th grade and our 8th grade celebration! We appreciate your continued support in ensuring our students stay focused and prepared for success. We love our Cavaliers and want to be sure and recognize all of the great things that they are doing!

You should have received a message yesterday related to safety and support as we return tomorrow and begin our final marking period. You can access that information here: https://secure.smore.com/n/m9axj.

I understand that sometimes our students may feel annoyed when they are getting consequences for what they consider "small" things like dress code, IDs, hallway behaviors, etc. I always try to help them understand that we cannot pick and choose which rules to enforce. It is not fair to them and creates a chaotic environment. I know that I've had the conversation with a few parents/guardians as well--I will never hold your student accountable for something that I wouldn't hold my own biological child accountable for. And my team and I will always start from a place of kindness when redirecting and/or addressing behaviors. The systems we have in place are here to ensure safety and security for our students and staff and take the school as a whole into consideration.

Reminders from before spring break:

Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in disruptive behaviors in the hallways and restroom areas, including excessive noise, horseplay, and misuse of restrooms. These actions not only disrupt learning but also create an environment that is unsafe and disrespectful. We are addressing this at school, but we need your partnership to reinforce expectations at home. Please take a moment to talk with your student about the importance of:

✅ Using indoor voices in the hallways and restrooms. In emergency situations, they will not be able to hear directions if they are too loud.
✅ Walking with purpose and avoiding horseplay. Students should walk on the right side of the hallway and go from point A to point B without unnecessary wandering. Horseplay is often the reason that students are hurt or get into real altercations.
✅ Respecting school property and keeping restrooms clean. Students deserve to have a clean, inviting, and safe environment in their school and everyone in the building is responsible for this.
✅ Being mindful of how their behavior impacts others. They are part of a school community and the actions they take do have repercussions on those around them.

As always, our partnership with you is invaluable. If you have any questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are looking forward to a Cav-tastic week with your students!
