In a Digital Age
Is multi-tasking a myth?
Research suggests that while multi-tasking may seem possible, our brains can only effectively focus on one task at a time. Multi-tasking might be better described as “switch tasking” as we switch between tasks. How does this impact learning? When students multi-task while doing schoolwork, their learning is far spottier and shallower than if the work had their full attention.
Understanding and fostering Sustained Attention is one of the four foundational priorities of the #Relationships in a Digital Age initiative. This month the articles, parent tips and videos provide more information to parents about what is distracting children, the impact of distractions, and ideas for parents to help their children navigate their digital environment, so they can learn deeply and develop sustained attention.
