Message from Principal Groves - Week of 11/13/23
Dear Blacklick Families,
As a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, November 13. This is a professional learning day for our staff. We will welcome students back in the building on Tuesday, November 14.
As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 614-759-5100 or by email at grovesk@gjps.org.
Respectfully,
Kristen Groves
THANK YOU Blacklick Families!
Thank you for all of the candy donations! Our students spent time on Friday afternoon sorting all of the candy and writing letters to the troops. Thanks to all of your donations we were able to donate over 30 boxes of candy to the Buckeye Military Moms organization. The candy will be included in care packages to active military men and women who are currently deployed.
In addition, thank you to all of the Blacklick family and friends that attended our Veterans' day assembly on Friday morning. This was our first in person assembly for Veterans' Day since 2019! It was a wonderful day honoring and celebrating the Veteran's and active military guests at Blacklick!
Congratulations to Mrs. Tolliver - Heart and Pride Award Winner!
Please join me in congratulating Mrs. Tolliver! Mrs. Tolliver is an intervention specialist at Blacklick that works with our kindergarten and first grade students. On Friday, Superintendent Deagle and Assistant Superintendent Jill Elliot visited Blacklick to present the GJPS Heart and Pride Award to Mrs. Tolliver!
The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding staff members who make a profound impact on our students and Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools. Congratulations, Mrs. Tolliver! We are so proud of you!
Talking Points - New GJPS Texting Tool
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools is excited to introduce a new texting tool that will help families connect better with their schools and teachers. We heard in our communication survey that text messages are the preferred communication method to receive information from GJPS and to support this feedback, we are expanding our district use of TalkingPoints to all staff and families.
TalkingPoints is a texting platform that allows families to receive the messaging as a text or through the TalkingPoints app. It also provides instant access to the messages in more than 150 languages. For families who choose to receive TalkingPoint communication straight to your text inbox, you will need to save the text numbers separately so you know who they are from. Otherwise, we encourage you to download the TalkingPoints for Parents mobile app in the app store on your iPhone or Android for additional features. More information about accessing messages can be found on our GJPS District website.
You will be receiving text messages from the District, Mrs. Groves and teachers in the coming weeks so please be on the lookout!

Highlights from FIRST Related Arts
Music in First Grade
First graders are having fun playing with the “Giant Stretchy Band” and learning new songs! A 1st grade favorite is “The Key Game”, which is great for practicing loud/quiet skills. We love music! :)
Art in First Grade
In first grade, students are looking at artwork from Chile called Arpilleras. We tore paper and added texture to represent the Andes Mountains. Later we will layer more textured paper to create a landscape collage. Lastly, students will learn to create an origami house!

GJPS District News!
Gifted Visual and Performing Arts Referral Process
Each year school districts in Ohio are required to offer an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to be identified as gifted in the area of Visual and Performing Arts. The identified areas of giftedness for Visual and Performing Arts include Visual Arts, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama/Theater, and Dance. If you know of a student that may be gifted in an area of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and would like for them to be screened for possible gifted identification in that particular area, please complete the Visual and Performing Arts Nomination Form.
