Para Sports Presentation – October 27 & 28

As part of our regular Physical Education program, students at Guardian Angels will have the opportunity to participate in a special Para Sports presentation on October 27 and 28. We are pleased to welcome Shawn from Cruisers Sports—a wheelchair basketball player and community leader who has shared his inspiring story with over 300 schools across the GTA.

This engaging presentation will highlight the importance of inclusion, resilience, and the power of sport. We’re excited for our students to learn from Shawn’s journey and experience Para Sports firsthand.

Empathy through Social Justice

God wants us to care about everyone's feelings. Empathy is the ability to put oneself in another's shoes and the capacity to feel what the other person is feeling. When we are unable to fully understand another individuals perspective because that is not our lived experience it is integral that you believe and trust that individual's story. Tatiana Mac, engineer, writer and speaker explains this in one of her talks. "Empathy is feeling what someone else is feeling. It is attempting to crawl into their

minds and hearts and experience what they’re experiencing...We cannot feel what it is to be anyone but ourselves. Instead of trying to feel something we can’t truly know to validate it, we should *trust* others’ experiences." This perspective offers up a new way to understand Empathy...as a way to validate, believe and trust the lived experiences of individuals that differ from our own to promote justice.

We ask all students to follow the Catholic Code of Conduct and board policies regarding responsible and ethical use of technology. Unauthorized use during school hours will not be tolerated.

Lunches

As we begin the new school year, we want to remind families that third-party lunch deliveries (e.g., Skip the Dishes, Uber Eats) are not permitted.

These services often arrive without proper student identification or names on the lunch bags, making it impossible for staff to ensure the lunch reaches the correct student. This creates confusion, increases the risk for students with allergies, and in some cases, delivery drivers have entered the school and walked directly into classrooms—posing a serious safety concern.

If you are dropping off a lunch yourself, please:

  • Arrive by 11:45 AM.
  • Clearly label the lunch bag with your child’s name.
  • Place it on the table at the front entrance.
  • Staff will ensure it is delivered to your child’s classroom.

We encourage families to consider:

  • Packed Lunch from Home – Ensures dietary needs are met and avoids delivery issues.
  • School Hot Lunch Program – Nutritious meals available starting in October.

Your cooperation is essential in helping us maintain a safe and organized environment for all students.

Kiss & Ride, End-of-Day Pick-Up & Early Sign-Out Procedures Kiss & Ride, End-of-Day Pick-Up & Early Sign-Out Procedures

To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal for all students, we ask for your continued cooperation with the following procedures:

🚗 Kiss and Ride:
Please use the Kiss and Ride lane for pick-up and remain in your vehicle. This helps keep traffic flowing and ensures student safety. If you need to exit your car, please park in a designated area off school property.

⏰ School Property Access:
Parents and guardians should not be on school property before 3:30 p.m.. This policy helps us maintain a secure learning environment and minimizes disruptions during instructional time.

📋 Early Sign-Outs:
If you need to sign your child out early, this must be done through the office. We strongly encourage families to plan ahead, as sign-outs after 2:30 p.m. are challenging. The office is extremely busy at this time with end-of-day routines, announcements, and preparing for dismissal. We may not be able to get your child down in time if requests are made too close to dismissal.

Your support helps us maintain a safe, respectful, and well-organized school environment for all students. Thank you for working with us!

Kiss & Ride

Thank you to those parents who are using the Kiss and Ride program. We appreciate your cooperation and the care you take as you are dropping off your children. Please no parking or drop off at the front of the school. This is a bus zone only and it is an emergency vehicle area.

A few reminders when using Kiss and Ride please:

  • Drop your child off at the sidewalk
  • Be patient with other cars as they drop off students. Some are younger students and require more time.
  • Drive slowly on school property at all times.
  • Pull up as close to the vehicle in front to accommodate other parents.
  • When pulling out to drive by other stopped cars, proceed with caution.
  • Please do not leave your vehicle unattended to walk your child to the school yard. If you wish to walk your child, please park in a designated parking area.
  • Students must disembark on the sidewalk side, if you have a child seat on the wrong side please consider moving it to accommodate safety in the future.

Supporting Student Safety and Well-Being

At the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB), we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and faith-filled learning environment where every student is valued and protected. In collaboration with local Children’s Aid Societies, our staff are guided by provincial legislation to report any concerns regarding a child’s safety or well-being. This includes suspected or confirmed cases of abuse, neglect, or human trafficking. Together, we work to ensure that all children and youth are supported and safe.

Prevelant Medical Conditions

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin the new school year, I am writing to remind you about the importance of updating our Plans of Care for prevalent medical conditions. These plans are crucial to ensuring that we can provide appropriate support and care for students with specific health needs, including Anaphylaxis, Epilepsy, and Asthma.

  • Updates and Changes: If there have been any changes to your child's health condition or medication regimen over the summer, it is essential that you inform us promptly. Attached, you will find the Plans of Care forms for Anaphylaxis, Epilepsy, and Asthma. These forms will need to be completed and signed by both you and your child’s physician if there are any updates.

  • Submission: Please submit the updated Plans of Care forms to the school office as soon as you can, ensuring that we have the necessary information on file for the school year ahead.

Custody of Children

On rare occasions, we are faced with difficult situations in which non-custodial parents arrive at school asking to visit their child or to take their child home after school. We are best able to serve and protect students when we are made aware of legal custody arrangements, visitation rights and other special instructions. If legal custody matters affect your family, please ensure that our office and classroom teachers are aware of any custodial arrangements that may affect your child during school hours.

Visitors to the School

We would like to thank all of our parents and other visitors to the school for respecting the designated waiting areas outside your child’s exit door. Only Staff and students are allowed in the school yard from 8:45 am-3:45 pm. In the event you have an appointment or are volunteering, please be reminded that all visitors to the school are to report to the office, sign in and wear a visitor’s sticker. This helps to ensure the safety and security of all students.

We are pleased to welcome our volunteers for another year to support learning in our school. We appreciate your commitment and support and look forward to a great year.

In accordance with the Safe Schools Act, all volunteers, including those going on one-day school trips, must have a Criminal Reference Check.

Peel Public Health and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health will be offering free dental screenings for select grades in DPCDSB elementary schools this year. A registered dental hygienist will conduct a quick check of students’ oral health to identify any urgent dental needs.

Punctuality Matters - Arriving On-TIme

⏰ Building Strong Habits: The Importance of Being on Time

"The way we spend our time defines who we are." – Jonathan Estrin

Arriving on time sets the tone for a successful day. When students begin their day with their classmates, they benefit from important routines, a calm start, and full access to instructional time.

Morning Routine Reminder:

  • Supervision begins at 8:45 AM
  • School entry is at 9:00 AM

Late arrivals can make it harder for students to settle in, stay engaged, and keep up with learning. Punctuality helps build strong habits that support academic success and personal responsibility.

To support a smooth start to the day:

  • Ensure your child arrives before 9:00 AM
  • Use designated entry doors with classmates—not the front entrance
  • Establish consistent morning routines and plan ahead

Let’s work together to build lifelong habits that help our students thrive.

Safe Arrival (School Messenger)

The new student absence reporting system from School Messenger will let parents/guardians use a mobile app, web site, or an interactive toll-free phone line to report an absence in advance. It will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to make it convenient for parents/guardians to report future absences.

https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

It is the expectation that all students arrive on time and are prepared for class. Promptness and regularity are desirable attendance patterns and by instilling such habits early in life, it is hoped that punctuality and reliability will be traits that will be a part of the future of each of our students. Late arrival, not only disturbs the class & interrupts learning, but also means that your child is missing important instructional time.

LATE STUDENTS MUST BE BUZZED IN AT THE FRONT DOOR and are required to check in at the Office.

School Cash Online

Online Payment System – the option to pay school related fees online. Refer to the Online Payment icon on our school webpage or the DPCDSB webpage to register for the option to pay school fees online. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no cash transactions this year.
