Assistant Principal's Message

Greetings,

As we step into the month of February, I am excited to see longer days and more sunlight. February also brings a sense of love and friendship, and our classrooms are busy with exciting activities that foster both academic and social development.

I encourage families to stay connected through regular communication with your child's classroom teacher. Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We are all here for the same reason, to ensure your child has the very best year.

If your child is going to be absent, please call the office and let us know why. The office should hear directly from families when students are out for illness, appointments, vacations, etc. A student is truant if they have the equivalent of 7 full days of unexcused absences or 5 consecutive school days of unexcused absences during a school year. They are considered chronically absent if they have missed 10% school days or more. This includes excused absences. This is the state law. You may see reminder letters if your child is approaching truant or chronically absent.

Just a reminder that we do have February break the week of February 16th-20th. I hope you all have a relaxing week off. The month of March will be full of fun and learning.

Warmly,

Erin Madore

Assistant Principal

February's Core Value of the Month

Each month Canaan Elementary students learn about a core value. These core values are essential for building good character and all point back to the BIG 3 - Treating others right, making smart decisions, and maximizing your potential. February's Core Value is Respect. Respect is showing others they are important by what you say and do.

Students will earn cougar slips if seen showing Respect and any of our previous studied core values. Each month, we will draw one cougar slip and that student's classroom will win an extra recess! Teachers also pick 2 students each month to be the Core Value Student of the Month. These students will receive a certificate, a medal, and be invited to a pizza party with Mrs. Madore.
