Front Office - Under Construction
Dear Pioneer Community:
Our front office is undergoing renovations and will be closed until our security vestibule at the front of the school is complete. The security vestibule, when complete, will contain our new front office.
When you enter the school, you will notice that construction is still on-going for the security vestibule, and now there is plastic covering the main office. During the on-going renovations, we ask for your patience and understanding as the new office setup may create slight delays in processing visitors and answering phone calls.
Mrs. Adams is now located at a desk in the main lobby in front of the office to greet visitors, to check-in students, and to answer the front door. Other office staff will be relocated to different offices within the building in order to answer the phones and meet other school needs.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause. If you have questions or concerns regarding the ongoing construction, please reach out to Dr. Davis at keysa@wcde.org.
dchsattendance@wcde.org
In the event that you have to miss school, email attendance notes to the attendance office or turn them in at the main office before school, between classes, or during lunch.
Reminder: If you have 6 or more unexcused absences or early morning tardies, you cannot go on field trips that remove you from the instructional environment (i.e. classroom time). This policy includes field trips that are for athletics (early dismissals for games) and for extracurricular events (CTE competitions).
Let's improve attendance this semester!

FOR READERS INTERESTED IN BLACK HISTORY
CAN BE FOUND IN THE DCHS LIBRARY AT 610.92 BRO
The first complete history of Black women physicians in the US, told through a blend of extensive archival research and the author's own journey as a medical student
As a young Black woman considering a path in medicine, Jasmine Brown quickly realized there weren't many other Black women physicians to look to as role models--but not because Black women haven't served as doctors for hundreds of years. No complete history of Black women physicians in the United States exists, and what little mention is made to these women in existing histories is often insubstantial or altogether incorrect. In this work of extensive research, Jasmine Brown champions a new history, penning the long-erased stories of Black women physicians in permanent ink.
The legacy of African American women physicians began with Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, whose dreams of working as a physician led her to embark on that career path at a time when slavery was still legal. Only fourteen months after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler graduated from medical school and then promptly moved to Richmond, Virginia to provide medical care for the newly freed slaves who had been neglected and exploited by the medical system.
Jasmine Brown tells this and other stories from the perspective of a historian and a Black woman in medicine. As a medical student, her journey already has parallels to that of Black women who entered medicine generations before her. This work establishes a lineage of Black women doctors whose accomplishments are undeniably important and inspirational, shedding light on the Black women doctor role models that medical students like Jasmine grew up without.

Meetings with Administration
Parents, do you need to meet or speak to an administrator?
The administrative team understands that situations will arise requiring a meeting with administration. If you would like to meet with an administrator, please contact Laura Geske at geskel@wcde.org or (423)753-1150 so that she can schedule the meeting. You may also email administrators directly at the email address listed under their pictures above.
Administrators' schedules are full with classroom observations, student-parent meetings, professional learning meetings with teachers, and other requirements. When a meeting is not scheduled, those needing a meeting may be asked to wait in the lobby until the administrator is available. This could take a while, especially if the administrator is completing a classroom observation for the duration of the class period. In order to have the time needed to devote to the situation/concern, please schedule a meeting.
Phone calls requesting to speak to an administrator may also require a call back rather than an immediate response. The administrative team understands the urgency of some situations, and the team asks that you please leave a message with one of the office staff, and one of the administrators will return the call as soon as possible.
Please be patient with the office staff as they are doing all that they can in that moment, especially with the ongoing office renovations that have displaced most office staff.
