BELONGING BUILDERS
Liz Hamilton & Samantha Petersen -- South River Elementary School
In concert with our Belonging initiatives and our Strategic Plan, we will be recognizing a staff member each month who goes above and beyond to make students feel personally accepted, respected, included, and supported in the school social environment.
Liz and Samantha are truly deserving of the Belonging Builders award for creating and leading a meaningful collaboration program at South River School. Through this initiative, each student was paired with a buddy, intentionally building connections across grade levels.
Each week during Monday Morning Meeting, students participated in activities with their buddies designed to strengthen relationships and foster a strong sense of belonging throughout SRS. In addition, students shared lunch with their buddies once a week a highlight that has quickly become a favorite day for the entire school community.
This program has had a powerful impact on school culture, helping every student feel seen, connected, and valued. They are looking for ways for it to grow even more!

SRS Morning Meeting about to begin
I loved visiting Ms Santoro's MES Grade 3 class this week. In conjunction with their ELA curriculum study of frogs, Ms. Santoro's students had hidden around the room "in plain sight" 24 frog images. It was quite a challenge for me and Assistant Principal Dunn to find them! Thank you, Ms. Santoro and students for inviting me to your classroom and for being patient with my frog search efforts. Here are some examples of just how hidden they were!
Great work, Students and Music Staff, at this past week's Evening of Jazz event. It was amazing! The show included a faculty jazz group including our own teachers and private lesson instructors. The entire evening was wonderful.

BELONGING INITIATIVE: CHOOSING A DISTRICT WIDE SEL PLATFORM
One of the major goals of our Belonging efforts this year is to choose a Social-Emotional Leanring (SEL) platform for our district. Under the leadership of Dr. Ellen Martin, Assistant Superintendent, we have assembled a comprehensive steering team who are looking at the research, establishing priorities, and working to narrow down some final platforms for field testing at all levels this spring with a goal of full adoption next fall. There will be time for student and family input in this important initiative. Our next meeting as a District-wide Belonging Team is scheduled for Monday, March 2.
GREAT LEARNING HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT
Our Learning Walks this year revolve around Deep Student Engagement, Task Development, and Learning Environment for Students. The District Leader established look-fors are inspired by Amy Berry and her book Reimagining Student Learning, From Disrupting to Driving. This is a multi-year focus, which will involve all stakeholders.
In a nutshell, we will focus on those elements in the classroom that move students from disrupting to driving learning, while also focusing on the development of strong tasks to engage the students within a culturally responsive climate that promotes inclusion. These look-fors are being unwrapped at staff meetings across the district.
MHS ATHLETICS
League Championship Time is heating up as the State Tournament approaches for our Teams.
The Girls Swim/Dive Team came in tied for 1st in the Patriot League Championship Swim/Dive Meet this past week. Seniors Maggie McGonagle and Georgia Pearson were part of the 200 Medley Relay Team that captured 1st place at the Meet. Freshman Katie Capobianco finished 3rd in the 200 Freestyle. Both Georgia and Katie were part of the 400 Relay that placed 1st and sealed the victory for Marshfield at the Meet.
The Boys Swim/Dive Team also had an impressive day, finishing in 3rd place overall. Sophomore Hank Hartwell finished 1st in the 100 Freestyle and also 2nd in the 50 Freestyle. Junior Sean Lawlor took home two, 3rd Place finishes in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Sophomore Cam Wong took home 3rd place in the 100 Backstroke.
The Gymnastics Team also started the week off well before their Patriot League Championship Meet this coming Friday with their victory in a tri-Meet against Scituate and Hanover/Duxbury. Senior Maya Overton captured the All-Around Competition winning in 3 out of the 4 Events. Junior Sophie Neumann took home 1st Place with her Vault Exercise. Sophomore Teammate Avery Gerstal was right behind Sophie finishing in 2nd Place. The Rams then faced a very good Falmouth Team. The Rams battled both the Clippers and the injury bug. Even though Marshfield came up short, they will be ready for their Patriot League Championship on Friday. Junior Sophie Neumann again was outstanding on the Vault, winning with a 9.3. Senior Maya Overton also continued her great Senior Year winning the Balance Beam with a 9.5. Junior Emily Emond also had a strong performance for the Rams in the Vault Exercise.
The MHS Wrestling Team closed out their Regular Season with a dominant performance against Whitman-Hanson defeating them 66-12. Senior Liam Dillon, at 144, won his Match with a Pinfall as did fellow Senior Christian Devlin at 132. At 215, Junior Drew Jones took home the victory as well with a Pin.
The Girls Hockey Team had an impressive shoutout win against Plymouth this week. Senior Morgan Murphy and Freshman Penny Schmid combined for the win in net for the Rams while Senior Sarah McIntyre has become one of the leading goal scorers not only in the Patriot League but also on the South Shore.
The Boys Hockey Team faced off against Archbishop Williams this week in non-league action. The Rams were once again paced offensively by Senior Ben Berian and his hat-trick. Senior Brendan McLaughlin also had a strong game for Marshfield collecting a few assists on the night. Junior Kyle Bossey also added a goal for Marshfield in the win.
The Girls Basketball Team got a strong win against Duxbury this week, 53-42. Caroline Arruda continues to have a strong season leading the Rams offensively. Sophomore Molly Stevens had a strong game for the Rams handling the ball and leading to the offense. Junior Maeve McDougall had a good game for Marshfield at both ends of the Court.
The Boys Basketball Team avenged an earlier season home loss to Duxbury by beating the Dragons at their place, 70-56. Marshfield was led by Senior Dan Padden who scored the game high by both Teams. Senior Cam Ryan had a big game for Marshfield off the bench scoring 9 points to go along with 5 blocks. Sophomore Rowan Hession also played important minutes coming off the bench for Marshfield with his defense and hustle.
The Girls and Boys Track Teams also took part in their Patriot League Championship held at New Balance Training Center. Senior Anna White finished 1st in the High Jump. Senior Sarah Penney finished 2nd in the 1000 Meters and the 4x200 Relay Team finished in 2nd Place. The Relay Team is Isabella Flynn, Claudia Ferris, Olivia David and Grace Keene. The Boys Team got very strong performances from their 4x400 Relay Team of Chase Doherty, London Trottier, Justin Casado and Evan Young finishing 2nd overall as well. Senior Tucker McNamee finished 2nd in the 1000 Meter. Freshman Conor Rightmire continued his impressive freshman season finishing 3rd in the 1 Mile.
One Team that is excited with all this snow and cold is our Ski Team. The Team continues to be impressive in their inaugural season co-oping with Cohasset. We are hoping that this season will be the 1st of many that the student-athletes of Marshfield High School will be able to enjoy!

Attorney General Guidance / "Know Your Rights" Guide
In May of 2025, amid increased immigration enforcement activity across Massachusetts, Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell released a ‘Know Your Rights’ guide designed to help immigrants, families, and communities understand their rights and the basic legal framework for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions. As we begin the school year we once again wanted you to have this information. Should you have additional questions or concerns regarding your students and how we can support them, please contact your building principal or Kate Lyons-Mailoux, Director of ESL.
