Dear Bethany Families,

I am writing to you today to share important information about our school's safety procedures and an upcoming drill.

On Friday morning we will be conducting a lockdown drill. This is a practice drill to ensure that our students and staff are prepared in the event of an emergency. The drill is part of our school-wide safety plan, which is based on the Standard Response Protocol (SRP).

The SRP is a nationally recognized, easy-to-understand framework that provides clear and consistent language for various emergency situations. It uses five action-based directives:

  • Hold (in your classroom)

  • Secure (get inside, lock outside doors)

  • Lockdown (locks, lights, out of sight)

  • Evacuate (to a safe location)

  • Shelter (for a specific hazard)

Our lockdown drill will focus on the "Lockdown" directive. We will practice the steps of locking our classroom doors, turning off lights, and having students move to a safe location within the classroom, out of sight. Students will hear a recorded voice over the loud speaker. There will be NO alarm or evacuation. The drill only lasts for a few minutes.

We want to ensure that all students feel safe and confident in knowing what to do if a real emergency were to occur. Our staff will be guiding the students through the process and will be available to answer any questions they may have.

Student safety is our top priority, and these drills are an essential part of our preparedness plan. We appreciate your support and cooperation in helping us create a safe learning environment for everyone.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

With Gratitude,

Ms. Rosenquist

The Jog-a-thon is only ONE WEEK AWAY and this week, we had our first raffle in hopes of reminding students to get their Pledgestar pages set up. Entries were automatic if your student created a Pledgestar page and our four lucky winners won Piccolo Mondo Gift Cards, Whimsy Wee's No School Art Day, and a LCD Writing Tablet. Congratulations to Jevan, Jackson, Anna, and Laurel.

We have our second raffle tomorrow, Friday 9/19, so there is still time to set up those pages!

Jog-A-Thon Volunteers

We are still in need of SEVERAL volunteers for the day of the event including, but not limited to:

  • Tent volunteers for several classes are still needed. This is such a fun way to get involved. Count laps, cheer, help with popsicles, etc. while your student runs. It is super interactive and fun.

  • We need ONE MORE TENT LEAD (but would honestly take a couple if you can spare the time). This is a really important role. This person will oversee a specific tent color for the day (8am - 2:30pm_ which means making sure the tents have enough volunteers for each run time, making sure there is plenty of water, re-filling the popsicles before each run time, keep the bubbles bubbling, etc. This is where the kids have the most fun and we need help making the magic happen!

You can see all of our volunteer needs here and sign up if you can!

We also still need a few things to make sure the day runs smoothly. If you can lend us any of these items, please let us know by signing up via the links herein.

Thank you to the entire Bethany community for your support and enthusiasm for this year's jog-a-thon!

Volunteer System Needed to Attend Jog-A-Thon

If you would like to help or just come to cheer on your child, you will need to have your background check completed. There will be a Spectator Area this year, but it will not be close enough to interact personally with the runners as they go by. If you want to High Five runners you will need to have done your background check. Do not wait until the week before the event and then be disappointed when you can not go outside and watch.

Please see below for the link to the Volunteer Application.

September is Attendance Awareness Month September is Attendance Awareness Month

Governor Tina Kotek proclaimed September 2025 as Attendance Awareness Month in Oregon. Evidence shows students who regularly attend school in September are significantly more likely to continue attending regularly throughout the school year.

In BSD, we believe that attendance is an important life skill that helps students be successful in the classroom, graduate on time and be prepared for life beyond high school. The desire to attend school regularly starts with students feeling a sense of belonging. We want our classrooms, schools and district to be places where students develop meaningful relationships with staff and other students. But to forge those connections, students need to show up for school.

SAEBRS Screening SAEBRS Screening

Dear Parent/Guardian:

As part of the Beaverton School District’s promise of Belong. Believe. Achieve. we aim to create an environment in which all students feel a deep sense of belonging to their school community — where they are accepted, supported and encouraged to be their authentic selves. As part of this commitment, our school will be administering the SAEBRS universal screener this school year. This tool is intended to build student awareness and help school staff know which students might need additional Social Emotional Learning (SEL) support. There are two kinds of SAEBRS assessments: student self-rating assessments and teacher rating assessments. Staff will administer the following assessments up to three times per year at the corresponding grade levels listed:

  • Kindergarten-12th grade: SAEBRS teacher rating tool

  • 2nd-12th grade: mySAEBRS student self-rating tool

We believe this survey is a valuable tool because the SAEBRS screener can help identify risk factors in students. The tool also informs the selection of SEL lessons and other instructional practices in classrooms.

Other Important information:

1. Participation is voluntary and your student may decline to participate.

2. The mySAEBRS is done using a computer or tablet and takes students approximately 5 minutes to complete.

3. If you would like to see the exact questions asked on the survey you may contact the counselor at your student’s school.

4. Please contact Toni Rosenquist at Bethany Elementary (3305 NW 174th, Beaverton 97006) no later than October 3rd if you do not want your student to participate in the SAEBRS or mySABERS during the 2025-2026 school year.

Thank you,

We love having families involved at school, and volunteering is a great way to connect and support our students and staff. To help keep everyone safe, all volunteers need to complete an application through our district’s volunteer system, Raptor, and pass an Oregon criminal background check. Once you're approved, you'll get a confirmation email.

Update: If you were in the system last year, you are still approved.

Classroom Snacks Classroom Snacks

Please pack a snack with your student

Most classes have a designated snack time. It is helpful if families send a healthy snack to school each day. We understand that some families may not be able to provide additional food, and if this is the case, we will provide a snack, so no child goes without. We have a limited budget to purchase snacks. Families are welcome to donate snacks to their classrooms (ask your teacher for suggestions). You can also donate to the general school supply by bringing snacks to the office. All snacks need to be individually wrapped. It would be safest for children with food allergies or dietary needs to bring a snack from home (or let us know if you need assistance). Thank you! 💗

Vision Screening Vision Screening

Vision screening will be conducted by the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, for all of our students on Monday 9/29/25. Students who wear glasses should wear their glasses for the screening. Parents will only be notified if follow up care is recommended based on vision screening results.

Please notify Esperanza Pietrok at esperanza_pietrok@beaverton.k12.or.us if you prefer that your child not participate in this vision screening. Students who are absent during school screenings will be screened individually with a parent request.

Know the Facts about E-Bikes ad E-Scooters

Electric bicycles and scooters are becoming increasingly popular. In the state of Oregon, children under the age of 16 are not allowed to ride any class of electric bike or scooter.

We strongly encourage all students and adults to wear a helmet when riding any set of wheels, motorized or not. If you are under the age of 16, you must wear a helmet when biking, scootering, or skating.

Know the facts, follow safety laws, and stay safe!
