Wind Ensemble works with Scott Teeple
Scott Teeple, Director of Bands at UW Madison stopped at East last Friday to work with the Wind Ensemble as they study Conni Ellisor's composition, Keepers of the House. Keepers of the House was inspired by the New York Times best-seller, Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest, written by UBC Professor of Forest Ecology, Dr. Suzanne Simard. Dr. Simard’s work delves into the fascinating world of forests, focusing on the intricate relationships between trees and the essential role of the mother tree in forest ecosystems.
It is always a special day when Scott Teeple stops by!
Congratulations to Everyone for A Great Jazz Festival!
This past Saturday, Sun Prairie hosted it's 33rd annual Jazz Festival. Bringing clinicians and artists from across the U.S. to work with 16 high school jazz ensembles from across Wisconsin, the Sun Prairie Jazz Festival brings the spirit of jazz to our community in the most sincere and best way. Congratulations on a great festival everyone!
Combined East & West Band Concert - March 5
Our next band concert is March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the East Performing Arts Center. The wind ensembles and concert bands from both East and West will join forces and for this concert.
Brace yourself for a great week of music: the Sun Prairie Bands Collaboration Concert is right around the corner. This week will feature an artist residency with acclaimed composer Jennifer Jolley. Dr. Jolley is an award-winning and trailblazing composer and she loves cats (check out her Facebook page for updates on her cat). She has received national recognition for her imaginative orchestration, emotional depth, and commitment to working directly with student musicians. During her residency, our students will have the opportunity to learn from, rehearse with, and perform with a living composer.
The concert will also feature the world premieres of two brand-new works created through the inspiring Sing Me a Story initiative. Sing Me a Story is a nonprofit organization that connects composers with children facing significant life challenges. Original stories are transformed into fully realized musical compositions, giving voice to young children and building empathy and connection through the arts. The East & West concert bands have teamed with composers Embree Way and Ben Jaeckel to bring life to Paisley's and River's stories. These premieres represent not only great music, but also compassion and community impact.
This promises to be an inspiring evening celebrating Paisley, River, creativity, collaboration, and the extraordinary dedication of our student musicians. We hope you will join us to support their hard work and experience this meaningful and exciting evening of student music together.
