From the Principal
Hello Riverview Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the middle of October! The energy at Riverview continues to be incredible, from the excitement of learning in our classrooms to the anticipation of tonight’s Fall Festival.
As we move through the coming weeks, our focus remains on keeping students engaged, supported, and growing every day. Your partnership, whether encouraging learning at home, volunteering, or simply cheering your student on—makes a meaningful difference in their success.
Thank you for your continued support and for being part of our amazing Riverview community. Wishing you a restful and joy-filled weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Urban
Riverview Principal
Fall Parade & Classroom Parties – Reminders
We are so excited to celebrate fall with our annual Classroom Parties and Parade on October 31st! This is always a special time for students, and our top priorities are safety, supervision, and fun.
Parties & Parent Volunteers
-
Teachers have sent out their classroom sign ups
-
Each classroom will be limited to 5 parent volunteers.
Parents who are volunteering will have to sign in at the front office
-
No siblings or pets are allowed at parties.
Party & Parade Times
-
Parties will take place from 2:45–3:15 p.m.
-
The Parade will begin at 3:20 p.m. out in front of the building. Students will exit on the east side, walk around the front, and re-enter on the west side before dismissal.
Costume Reminders
Students can bring their costume for the party and parade
-
Students should be able to change into costumes independently.
-
Please avoid face makeup, weapons, anything gory, or costumes that are not appropriate for elementary school.
Dismissal & Parking
-
No early checkouts after 3:00 p.m.
-
Normal dismissal procedures will be followed.
-
Please notify the office of any dismissal changes in advance.
-
Parking will be limited. Please only park in designated areas. Do not park in the dismissal loops by the curbs, as this blocks buses and traffic flow.
We look forward to a festive afternoon filled with smiles, costumes, and community fun! Thank you for helping us make this celebration a success!
Veteran's Day Assembly
We are looking forward to our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly! In preparation for that, Mrs. Seyb is collecting new and updated entries for our annual Veteran’s Day Assembly slideshow. If you have a Veteran in your family and would like to honor them on the big screen, please see the flyer attached for more information. All slideshow entries are due by Thursday, October 16th.
New this year: If you intend to bring a veteran to be introduced, please RSVP by Tuesday, November 4th. Please use this link to register.
Attendance & Punctuality Reminders
- Our doors open for students at 8:30 AM, and classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:45 AM.
- Please help remind your child to be in their seat and ready to learn by 8:45—every minute counts, and there is so much exciting learning to be done each day!
- If your child will be absent, please notify both the office and their classroom teacher. Consistent attendance and on-time arrivals help set students up for success.
Connect, Align, Grow
At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.
-
Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
-
Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.
-
Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.
ALIGN – Working Together for Success
At Riverview, we know that when families and schools work together, students thrive. Aligning expectations at home, school, and in the community helps children feel supported and confident, knowing they are hearing consistent messages about learning, behavior, and responsibility. This partnership strengthens their sense of security and encourages them to take risks, ask questions, and grow as learners and citizens.
How Families Can Help This Week:
Talk with your child about one goal or expectation from school—whether it’s completing homework, showing kindness to classmates, or following classroom routines—and share how it connects to your family’s expectations at home. Celebrating when your child meets these goals reinforces consistency, builds confidence, and helps Falcons grow into responsible, caring learners.
Counselor's Corner
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” — Aesop
This month our character trait focus is on Kindness.
Celebrations & Shoutouts
This Week, We Celebrate Our AMAZING 2nd Grade Team!
A big Falcon thank you to our fantastic 2nd grade teachers—Mrs. Tryon, Mrs. Broxterman, and Mrs. Nguyen!
These amazing educators are always finding fun and interactive ways to engage their students. From creative dress-up days to lively “goose shenanigans,” their contagious energy fills the classroom and makes learning exciting every day. We are so grateful for their dedication, creativity, and the joy they bring to our school community!
Riverview Site Council
Every elementary school in Kansas is required to have a Site Council which is a team of parents, staff, and community members who work together to support school improvement. Site Council members provide input on student learning, school goals, and accreditation efforts, and they serve as an important link between home, school, and the broader community.
At Riverview, our Site Council plays a key role in shaping the work we do to help every Falcon succeed. We invite any interested parents or community members to join us this year. Your voice and perspective make a difference!
If you’d like to get involved, please complete the interest form here: https://forms.gle/opR8u61rrhuknE2F7
Nurse Updates
We have wonderful nurses available in our front office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:
-
Drop off medications or medication orders
-
Inform us of any new health conditions
-
Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)
-
Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)
We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.
If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Visitor Management System
Student and staff safety is always our top priority. Riverview will continue using the Centegix Visitor Management System this year, following district safety guidelines. All visitors must check in through the office with a valid photo ID. The ID will be scanned into the system and a visitor sticker with your photo will be printed. This sticker must be worn and visible at all times while in the building.
For the safety of everyone, no visitor will be allowed in the building without a valid ID. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to maintain a secure learning environment for our Falcons.
Arrival/Dismissal
Car Loop Reminder
Please remember to have your student’s name clearly displayed during car loop pick-up. Since staff members rotate and substitutes occasionally cover, having names visible before you pull up to the cones helps us quickly identify students and ensure they are ready when you arrive. This small step keeps the process running smoothly and efficiently for everyone. Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!
Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!
For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
