First District Folder Review Completed!
Great job on our first folder review! We did not have any major issues. We will ensure that we remain effective by bringing our Due Process Folder to all ARCs and continue completing school level folder reviews.
I am very proud of our team!
NTI
Some resource times have changed. Please review the Resource Schedule with your individual student NTI schedules. If they need to be updated, please do so and then give a new copy to the student.
Domain 1: Planning & Preparations
1B: Demonstrating Knowledge of Students
Understanding our students is an essential part of every effective classroom. Not only do we need to have an understanding of our students, but the learning process. As we discussed at the district Special Education PLC, we need to implement strategies that will help our students use metacognition skills. I challenge each of you to dive into the resources on the District Special Education Google Classroom. Many of those strategies can be implemented into your classrooms.
The picture below describes how to be Accomplished and Exemplary for 1B, as well as critical attributes and examples.
Transition Updates
For all our 7th and 8th grade students we discuss transition services at their annual review. The last part of the Present Levels discusses Transition Needs. One of the areas of need must be checked. We also must provide a statement of explanation in the Comments section.
An example from KDE is:
If the student has needs identifed in the community experience, then the comment box should have current data and evidence to describe what the student currently can do in the community, needs and supports for the student while participating in community experiences and what possible experiences are needed to assist the student in reaching their postsecondary goals.
This is an area that we can make improvements. As you work on drafts, contact me if you have any questions.
ILPs
Individual Learning Plans (ILP) must be updated prior to the ARC and then it must be discussed in the meeting. The committee should compare the ILP and student survey to determine the alignment between the two.
Our system for ILPs will be that I will contact Mrs. Smith via email, with the list of students with upcoming ARCs. She will email the updated ILP to me and I will print then put in the case manager's mailbox.

Progress Monitoring
- Each student should have a folder with progress monitoring probes for each goal or you should have a google classroom for each student.
- The folder should have the student's name and the caseload manager's name.
- Each classroom will need a designated location for the folders that are both confidential and easily accessible for the student.
- Ensure general education teachers know the schedule of progress monitoring, so that they can help to monitor. Several reminders may need to be sent. The schedule should be followed, even when the co-teaching is not in the classroom.
- Once a paper/pencil probe has been collected, it should be given to the caseload manager to enter into IC.
