Principal Weekly Update to Families
For the Week of December 15th - December 19th
Brief Message From the Principal
Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,
Accessing Your Child’s First Semester Grades in PowerSchool - On the Web - NOT THE APP
Next week brings us to the end of the first semester at JES and as part of USD 346’s commitment to consistent and timely communication, all first semester grades for students in grades 3–6 will be available digitally through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This online system allows families to view grades, attendance, and other important information at any time throughout the school year.
Grades K-2 will still be printed and sent home.
Below is a simple step-by-step guide to help you log in:
How to Log In to Your PowerSchool Parent Portal
-
Visit the PowerSchool Parent Portal
-
Go to the USD 346 website and select the PowerSchool link.
-
-
Enter Your Username and Password
-
Use the login credentials you created when enrolling your child.
-
If you have forgotten your login information, contact building office.
-
-
Select Your Child’s Name
-
Once logged in, your child’s name will appear at the top of the screen on the left side.
-
-
Click “Grades & Attendance”
-
Here you can view grades for each class, teacher comments, and overall progress for the semester.
-
Hard Copies Available Upon Request
While digital access is our standard process, families may request a printed copy of their child’s report card by contacting the JES office. We are happy to provide one at any time.
If you need help accessing your PowerSchool account or have questions about grades, please call our office and we will gladly assist.
Inclement Weather Procedures
At Jayhawk Elementary, the safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. Winter weather and other severe conditions can impact travel and school operations, so we want to ensure families know how we handle school closings or delays.
How Decisions Are Made
-
The superintendent and building administrators review weather forecasts, road conditions, and bus safety reports before making any decision to close, delay, or dismiss early.
-
Decisions are typically made by 6:00 a.m. for morning delays or closures and as early as possible for early dismissals.
-
Factors considered include:
-
Road and travel safety for buses and families
-
Weather conditions such as snow, ice, or severe storms
-
Ability of staff to safely travel to school
-
Building safety (plowed parking lots, functioning heating, etc.)
-
Communication to Families
When a change to the regular schedule is necessary, families will be notified through:
-
Automated call, text, and email system (ensure your contact information is current in PowerSchool)
-
District website and social media channels
-
Local news stations (when applicable)
If no announcement is made, school will be in session as usual.
Options for Families
-
Families who feel road or travel conditions are unsafe for their child may keep their child home, and the absence will be excused due to safety.
-
Please notify the school office if your child will not attend due to weather, even when school is open.
