Message from Principal Aronow

Dear Summit Hill Parents, Guardians, and Students,

🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎉

I hope everyone's cup got full over the break and had time to spend reflect on your blessings. We can't wait to see our students faces and hear all about what they did over their break. Remember that students return back to school on TUESDAY, JANUARY 7TH.

Our Texas weather is starting to feel more like Winter, so I wanted to send a few reminders.

  • Staff will welcome all students in the vestibule area when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, and will not be outside to open car doors.
  • There may be some winter weather over the next couple of months that may cause school to be closed or delayed. Please make sure you are receiving district updates so that you can have the most up-to-date information. Summit Hill will also post these emergency announcements on our campus Facebook page as well.
  • We have had several coats left at school. Please write your student's first and last name on the tags of their coats so we can make sure they are returned to the correct student. This also applies to any gloves, hats, or scarves.
  • Please make sure you are dressing your student appropriately for the drop in temperatures. In December, we had students coming to school in shorts and t-shirts. These students would then come to the office asking for a warm jacket or pants. We are now running out of clothes to accommodate all of our students. If your student has borrowed any clothes from our campus, please send them back with your student. If your student has outgrown some of the warmer clothing, we would love your donation of new or gently used items.

Here's to a successful 2nd semester and our wish is for academic growth from ALL of our students. Parents, you can help by ensuring your students are reading every day for at least 30 minutes. Some family friendly ways to do this is to have your student read the recipe you are making. A fun and challenging extension of this activity, have your student read the recipe with no corrections from you and see how their food tastes (supervision will still be required for any appliances or kitchen gadgets they might need). You can also do this with putting something together by having your student read the directions. These examples not only help your student with reading, but also the importance of following directions. I would love to hear what you are doing to help your student extend their learning from school to home. (Pictures are always fun to receive!)

I hope everyone has enjoyed their Winter break! As always, if you have any questions, please reach out at 903-745-4100 or at Aronow.Rebecca@HoweISD.net.

Warm regards,

Rebecca Aronow

Note from Nurse Holly Note from Nurse Holly

Cold and Flu season is here! Our students are not always aware of what they touch, who may be carrying an illness, or protecting their sneeze or cough.

PLEASE do not send your student to school if:

  • They are running a fever within 24 hours of coming to school.
  • You gave them medicine prior to coming to school to mask their underlying condition.
  • They are sneezing or coughing up anything that is NOT clear.
  • They vomit within 24 hours of coming to school.
  • They have diarrhea within 24 hours of coming to school.

Remember, students share everything with everyone! This includes germs and what happened at home last night or this morning! We want to ensure the safety of all students, so please follow these simple guidelines. Also, contact the school if you keep your student home. We will probably ask what their symptoms are to determine any patterns on campus. This information may require us to shampoo carpets/rugs, spray the classroom with disinfectant, or relocate a class in order to deep clean everything with the classroom.

We appreciate all of your assistance with this and we will do everything we can to prevent the spread of germs that may cause our students to become sick.
