MEET THE TEACHER/BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT - MONDAY, AUGUST 26

The RES Meet the Teacher/Back to School Night will be held on Monday, August 26th from 4:30 - 6:00 PM. This event is for students in KINDERGARTEN THROUGH GRADE 5. Families can come to the school and meet their teacher(s), drop off school supplies, and hear important information from the classroom teachers about the upcoming school year. We will hold 3 identical sessions lasting 25 minutes each. This will allow families to visit one, two, or three different sessions depending on the number of children in the family. Families with one student ONLY need to attend one session. Families with more than one student can visit different classrooms for each child at the appropriate start times. Sessions will begin at 4:30, 5:00, and 5:30 with a short transition time between each session to allow families time to move to additional classrooms if necessary. In addition, families that can not make the 4:30 start time can attend one of the later start times (5:00 or 5:30) and hear the same information. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Prekindergarten students do not attend this event. These students will have an orientation specifically for Prekindergarten on September 4th. Please visit the Kona Ice Truck after you have been inside the building for Meet The Teacher.

The Kona Ice Truck is scheduled to be at school and will be available during Meet the Teacher for families to purchase treats.

Prekindergarten Orientation - Wednesday, September 4.

Prekindergarten students and families are invited to attend one of our Prekindergarten Orientations scheduled for Wednesday, September 4 at either 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM. Prekindergarten parents will be contacted directly by their child's teacher once teachers return to school in late August. During these calls, your child's teacher will introduce themselves to you. Parents will be provided important information about the Orientation and the Prekindergarten Program. Prekindergarten families are not expected to attend the Meet the Teacher/Back to School Night on August 26 since prekindergarten has its own orientation scheduled on September 4. The first day of school for Prekindergarten students is Thursday, September 5.

Transportation Information

Please be patient during the first few days of school for bus riders. Due to the River Road closure, busses may be later than usual arriving home at the end of the day. In addition, we work very hard to ensure everyone is on the correct bus home at the end of the day. This also takes a little longer during the first few days as students get into the dismissal routine.

Parking for Meet the Teacher

Parking for Meet the Teacher Night is usually very crowded. Please use the school parking lot and along Seward Road. In addition, we will open the gate of new fence located along Seward Road. This will allow for parking in the grass near the playground and near the portable classrooms. Please use care when parking inside of the fenced in area.

Emailing School & District Staff

Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.

Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.

TITLE I Information

Parents Right to Know:

The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions that promote a parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers. A parent may request the following information:

  • Any college or university degree, major or certification held by the teacher
  • Whether the teacher is certified by the State of Maryland to teach a particular grade level or subject area
  • Whether the teacher holds a conditional teaching certificate
  • The qualifications of the paraprofessionals serving the student

If you would like to request the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers or paraprofessionals, please submit a written request to the principal. The principal will provide the information to you within 30 business days of the date of your request.

Parents may also request information on the level of achievement and academic growth of their child, if applicable and available, on each of the State academic assessments.

Parents will receive timely notice if the student has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.

Parents May Request Teacher Information:

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 provides parents of students attending Title 1 schools the opportunity to request information about the professional qualifications of their child's teachers. Parents of elementary students may request in writing to the school principal information about their child's teacher including college/university degrees of certification held, subject area of the teacher's degree or certification, and Maryland certification status. Additionally, if your child is served by paraprofessionals, parents may request their professional qualifications.

Parent Information Resource Center:

Parents are encouraged to visit our Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) located in the lobby outside of the front office. The PIRC has a variety of parenting resources and informational brochures and flyers. These materials are all free. Parents can find the School Improvement Plan, RES School Family Engagement Compact, booklets from The Parent Institute on topics such as “Seven Habits of Highly Responsible Students; Help Your Child Balance School and Extracurricular Activities; and Helping Children Learn to Resolve Conflicts.” Parents can also find information regarding Caroline County Recreation and Parks, Caroline County Library, Imagination Library and Maryland Department of Health . Please be sure to check out our Parent Information Resource Center next time you come to the school.
