Dear District 95 Families,

As we collectively celebrate the successful end of another school year, I hope you will take a few moments to see the photos and read about a few more recognitions from the end of this school year. What an amazing journey this school year has been, with so many incredible milestones and achievements along the way. I continue to be incredibly grateful to be part of such an amazing learning community!!

School Day Survey

Earlier today, parents/guardians, staff, and 6th-12th grade students should have received an email asking for your feedback on school day changes that were in place for the 2022-23 school year. Please take a few moments to respond to the survey and provide feedback. We appreciate your feedback!

German Student Awards German Student Awards

Congratulations to Cibi Vadivel, a sophomore at Lake Zurich High School, has been awarded an all‐expense‐paid summer study trip to Germany!

A Day in the Class of....Ms. LaVine, May Whitney

In this feature article, “A Day in the Class of…”, we highlight the Superintendent as a member of a classroom for one full period. A different school and class are highlighted each month, allowing readers a view into the classroom from a new perspective!. This lesson demonstrated Responsive Instruction (relating to the District 95 Instruction Learning Model ).

I was so privileged to have the opportunity to spend time with Ms. LaVine, May Whitney third grade teacher, and her students during the month of May. Walking into this incredibly bright, cheery and welcoming room, I instantly felt high levels of excitement to learn with the third grade students. I was welcomed to a small table group during literacy stations. I had an opportunity to work with a few different students while I practiced skills previously taught alongside some team members. We worked on the Nearpod assignment that provided an opportunity to answer questions, identify the message and determine character traits based on the book, The Dogs of Bedlam Farm. Next, I used the information I knew about poetry to\support a process of writing my own poetry as well as offering feedback related to my team’s poetry. This was one of my favorite literacy experiences, as I had the chance to read and give feedback on several poems written by one of my student partners. Her poetry book focused all of her poetry related to her mom, as she planned to give her book to her mom for Mother’s Day. My absolute favorite poem was her free verse piece and accompanying illustration:

My mom is amazing.

She is always there

For me; I love her so much.

She is so beautiful and kind:

I love my mom.

Her hand drawn and colored picture of her and her mother hugging was simply beautiful! I instantly thought of my own children and hoped that they shared the same type of pure love for me as she does for her mother. While some students selected books from the book closet, I elected to finish reading all of the poems contained within her beautiful book. Time passed by so quickly during my learning experiences as a part of the literacy stations! Before I knew it, Ms. LaVine called my team to the back table. We read a delightful story called, My Grandma’s House. Ms. LaVine facilitated this literacy learning session by asking us a series of questions following the time allotted to reading the story that really supported a process to deepen our understanding of the story as well as to help us to notice how the text and pictures helped to better convey the author's message. Every aspect of my learning felt as though it was responsive to both myself as well as the other students’ needs in the classroom.

Wow! I had such an amazing experience! I hope Ms. LaVine will invite me back next school year… this was truly so much fun!
