2025-2026 Weather Make-up Days 2025-2026 Weather Make-up Days

Dear Cedar Families,

We want to ensure you are aware about our plan for inclement weather. The Lebanon School District has always been committed to in-person instruction and there are two weather make-up days built into our 2025-2026 school calendar: Monday, February 16, 2026, and Friday, May 22, 2026. If the district needs additional weather make-up days beyond these two then we will transition to Flexible Instructional Days (FID).

In the event of a FID day, we would implement the following plan to ensure that learning continues from the safety and comfort of your homes. All information about FID days is below with some important points including:

Communication

  • We will communicate the decision for a snow day and the implementation of FID through our usual channels, including email, text messages, and our school website. Please make sure your contact information is up-to-date to receive timely notifications.

Expectations for Students

  • All teachers, including special area teachers, will assign activities or assignments that are equivalent to time spent on a similar activity during a regularly scheduled class period.

  • At the elementary, intermediate, and junior high, principals and teachers will ensure our students are prepared with at-home learning activities for FID days. Additional communication will come from your child's principals or teachers.

  • At the high school, all assignment/activity information will be posted by 10:00 a.m. to Schoology. These websites can be accessed from a variety of devices including each student’s school-issued device.

  • Attendance will be taken with the assignment completion. If your student cannot access the assignment, please contact the appropriate teacher via email. The teacher will assist in providing an emailed copy or further directions.

    • Note: The district will make every effort to notify students and families of an impending FID day if the weather forecast is unfavorable. With this advance notice, teachers will be able to provide paper copies of assignments to students who may not have internet access at home.

Support and Accessibility

  • Our teachers and staff will be available until 3:30 p.m. on a FID day to assist students and answer any questions. You can contact them via email or by using the messaging system in the learning platform.

Flexibility and Understanding

  • We understand that snow days can bring unique challenges. Our teachers will be flexible and understanding, taking into consideration individual circumstances. If a student is unable to participate due to extenuating circumstances, please notify the teacher and school as soon as possible.

To continue using FIDs on future school closure days, we need students to complete their assignments. If attendance rates are drastically lower on FIDs, then we will add additional days to the school calendar as student learning is a top priority for us.

Thank you for being a partner with us. We appreciate your efforts as a parent/guardian and look to continue to strengthen our bond with you.

Your Partner in Education,

Nicole L. Malinoski, Ed. D.

A Flexible Instruction Day (FID) as an alternate form of instruction in place of a normal school day. On a FID, students will not attend in-person school but will complete learning assignments and activities at home. Students will receive assignments for each subject that would have originally taken place during a regular school day.

If the district implements a FID, notification regarding procedures and expectations will be communicated to both students and families from the building principal or classroom teacher. Please note that FIDs will ONLY be used if the district has exhausted the built-in make-up days or in the event of an emergency.

How will I know if students have a FID? How will I know if students have a FID?

Students and parents/guardians will be informed of a FID through all systems currently used to broadcast school closures (television, radio, School Messenger, and social media), as well as on our district website, www.lebanonsd.org. Additionally, students may be informed before leaving school the day prior in order to collect all necessary materials to complete assignments.

Your student's teachers and building principals will communicate information too.

Where will students find their learning activities to complete on a FID? Where will students find their learning activities to complete on a FID?

All teachers, including special area teachers, will assign activities or assignments that are equivalent to time spent on a similar activity during a regularly scheduled class period.

How are grades and attendance marked on a FID ? How are grades and attendance marked on a FID ?

  • All work assigned for a FID must be completed that day to be marked ‘present’ for the school day.
  • On a FID, students will not attend in-person school but will complete learning assignments and activities at home. Students will receive assignments for each subject that would have originally taken place during a regular school day.
  • Students who do not participate in the learning activities or assignments on the FID will be marked absent for the day. Parents/guardians must submit an absentee excuse within three (3) days of the FID, or the absence will be considered unexcused.
  • If a student cannot access the internet or complete a paper copy of the learning activities and assignments assigned on a FID, then the student would have five days to complete the activities for credit. However, students will be marked absent if they were unable to participate on the actual day of the FID.
  • If students were given a paper copy of the assignment, then their attendance would be recorded on the next day when their assignment is submitted to their teacher.
  • On an FID, if a student attempts to participate or complete the activity but needs assistance, teachers will be available via email until 3:30 p.m.
  • Parents/guardians should ensure their contact information is accurate within PowerSchool to ensure receipt of relevant information, including school closings and FID procedure

What if my child does not have internet access to complete the required work? What if my child does not have internet access to complete the required work?

The district and its teachers will attempt to give students advance notice of a FID day. This process will allow teachers to review expectations and provide necessary materials and resources to students for a FID before leaving school the day prior. Please contact your child's teachers and they can assist in being prepared for FID day work, if you do not have internet access at home.

What if my student has a pre-arranged day off or is sick on the FID? What if my student has a pre-arranged day off or is sick on the FID?

Students should make-up the work they miss as with any other absence from school. Please note, if your child is unable to participate in learning activities on the actual FID they must bring a note to school as with other absences.

What if my child requires specially-designed instruction? What if my child requires specially-designed instruction?

Specially designed instruction will be provided for those students needing support. Any accommodations are an expectation. Special education teachers and English Language support teachers will be available for consultation and assistance throughout the school day for students to check in with or receive the necessary support. This assistance will be provided using the teacher's online meeting space such as a Microsoft Teams link. Please ensure your child knows how to contact their teachers for help. Our teachers will also reach out to those families whose children require specially-designed instruction.

How can I contact my child's teacher on a FID? How can I contact my child's teacher on a FID?

All professional staff members will be available via email until 3:30 p.m. on a FID. All student's teachers are listed in PowerSchool. You can also contact teachers through the grade-level learning management system messaging system, SeeSaw or Schoology.
